I went for my 35wk ob apt today. My dr said I was dilated between 1-2cm. That was about all he said. My mom said I could walk around for 2wks being dilated only 2cm. Is this really true???

I walked around dilated to a 4 for more than 2 weeks. I even went to a college football game and walked up and down the ramps and stairs in this time.
Yes you can go a lot longer than 2 weeks. I was dilated a few cm at 34 weeks with my first and then was induced 8 weeks later.
yep. you can also go into labor without being dilated as well.
I was dilated at 3cm for about 3 weeks. Dr insisted I would be having a baby that weekend, of course she didn't come for 2 1/2 more weeks.
try 6 weeks at 3cm...yes you can in fact the more kids you have the sooner and longer you will be at that. i don't think I was ever not dialated with my third.
If it is your 1 St then you can actually go 2 or 3 weeks at 4 and still need to be induced... Ask how I know!

I also was dilated early but both of my kids were born at 40 weeks.

My sister in law was walking around dialted at 4 cm for, I think it was two weeks before her second was born....and she came just a week early...but that could have been because she wanted to attend her aunt and uncle's (ours) wedding in person! lol :)
You can walk around dilated to FOUR for forever OR you can go from 0 to 10 in 30 minutes. Unless you're in active labor it is MEANINGLESS (and possibly frustrating information!), so I made the doctor keep his hands to himself!

I agree with Tiffany that they should not tell anyone something that gets hopes up for nothing. :-) You could even be dilated to 2 and in labor for hours. I guess that's something we should not tell you too. :-(
I am kind of in the same boat - 36 weeks/2 cent. dialated/ 25% effeced - and I figure it really doesn't mean anything. I was 2 for almost 3 weeks with my son, and then went from 2-10 in 2 hours...
I was dilated to about 2 for several weeks. My son was not born until 11 days past his due date.
with all 3 deliveries...I was dilated for 6 weeks minimum. Lost the mucus plug at 6 weeks also. Fun, fun!

I forgot to say, that I did have my last daughter 3 weeks early. I was not in labor. But I was dialated to a 5 and they would not let me go home. I laid around all day waiting for my husband to get a flight home from his business trip. I went from 5 to 7 without any pain or noticeable contractions. After being there for about 10 hours they broke my water and she came quick.
My 3rd daughter was the one that I was dialated to a 4 with 6 weeks early. We also broke the water 2 weeks early in order to make sure I was able to make it to the hospital in time.
I was dilated for nearly 4 weeks with #2. It is very possible. I think they should just not tell us and get our hopes up. = )
