Yes! It is great! You will feel like a new person! I suggest Moroscos in Grand Prairie...that is where I went. They were wonderful...they made you feel very calm and it was very private. Look into wheat intollerance and celiac desease...I had all the problems you listed until I stopped eating wheat. I am a new person now! Feel great!

I have had this condition for my entire life, and it became worse after my son was born. I used Equalactin for years, and Dicyclomine for the severe, passing out degree of pain on occasions. Now, I just use Digestive Advantage IBS formula. I just take one probiodics capsule a day, and about 99% of all those symptoms are gone! I am 43, and wish I had this a long time ago. You should get tested for food allergies, and avoid those foods as well as caffeine, but this is the best thing I have found, and it is a natural alternative to the drugs they give as muscle relaxers for IBS.

Hang in there!

Hi J.,

You've already gotten some great advice. Colonic irrigation is not a cure, but a great tool to help you start feeling better. I recommend Alpha Cleanse on Magnolia Avenue if Fort Worth. Donna is great. She can help you with nutritional recommendations, too.

i've done them and they are not a cure. they can also be unsanitary if not done a proper facility. I did dallas colonics near presby hospital.
spot on nutrition wise - ditch gluten, dairy, sugar and any soft drinks (diet or otherwise). you can do a gentle herbal cleanse (go to health food store or Whole foods). Ezymatic therapy has one as does Whole foods. IBS, etc. can be from leaky gut which is irritated by inflammation causing foods. those typically are dairy, sugar, wheat and all gluten containing grains, some lectins (which includes beans), soy, etc. Makes for a boring diet but it makes you feel better almost immediately. check out Dr. Mark Hyman MD www.ultrametabolism.com His books and website and free emails are excellent.

I don't think it's a gimmick, but it doesn't solve the problem unless combined with other treatments. I had IBS too, caused by a significant imbalance of good bacteria in my digestive tract that was affecting my whole health. Jordan Rubin writes great books about digestive health. I am free of my symptoms now.
Hope this helps.

I did colon cleanse using herbal products from www.blessedherbs.com - read interesting information and decide if this is for you. They have natural doctor who can answer your questions. I try products from www.drnatura.com. The Colonics from them didn't help me. I believe that diet plays major role in our health.

Hi J.,

I haven't had experience with colonic irrigation, however, I work with patients on a daily basis to eliminate irritable bowel, bloating and constipation. I use Applied Kinesiology (aka muscle testing) to determine nutritional deficiencies and allergies. By prescribing the correct nutritional supplementation and eliminating allergies we can get your digestive tract functioning optimally. If you are interested or if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me at ###-###-####. Thanks!

Colonics are helpful, especially if you are changing your diet and are in the process of detoxing and stimulating your colon.

IBS can be helped with food choices and managing stress. It is triggered by different means for each individual. If you would like information on IBS, email me.

Another route would be to see nutritionist, Lilli Hetherington. ###-###-####. She is excellent with health programs and has been in the business for 30+ years but stays on top of the latest info.

She can be heard on KWRD -100.7, www.thewordfm.com. She happens to be having a program today, Mar 27th 2008 at 11:30am CST.

Its not going to help if you have IBS, because IBS is triggered by something, a clean-out won't really help. My husband and 7 year old both suffer from IBS. I can suggest only this. A high fiber diet - lots of green leafy vegetables, lots of water which will help with the constipation.

Do you know what triggers your IBS? Is is stress, eating something in particular. This will make a difference as well. My husband's is triggered by milk & my son by soy. My best friend also has this problem and she controls hers with a daily dose of a stool softener. Colace.

Good luck.

Done right, this is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend Colon Heath Center/clinic in Fort Worth. Tracey is the owner and has worked on me for the last 20 years. She'll make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Make sure you don't eat meat for a few days before as well. it's a fascinating experience. I can't begin to describe how wonderful you'll feel afterward.

I had the same problem. I remembered that my mom had too so I asked her how she solved it. You won't believe this but it's true. Take a Viactiv calcium chew twice a day with the 2 meals that give you the most trouble. When I start to get that "feeling" in my gut I know for a fact I forgot to take the chew and can often eat one really fast and save the day.

I was on the verge of getting one as part of an article I was writing on detoxing. My doctor persuaded me it was not a great idea. There are as many inexperienced people out there as there are experienced. If you get someone who is unskilled, all sorts of things can go wrong.
There are cleansing methods that are oral and will have quite an effect.
My advice is get input from you doctor and if he/she recommends it, they will send you to a reputable person.

Yes, a few years ago I had it done several times. I loved it! Well I mean I felt much better after having it done. If I could afford it I would go monthly. It makes you feel so much better. There is usually no cramping and it is not embarrassing at all they were good about explaining the procedure and keep everything covered, not uncomfortable in the least. I have had a history of constipation my entire life to the point my back would hurt, my chiropractor sent me to have colon cleansing. You should try it. You will get relief.

Hi J.,

I have struggled with this issue for years and recently started taking probiotics and it has worked wonders! I go just about every day...usually 2 times a day now, without any of the cramping or bloating. It is a LIFESAVER. I get them at Whole Foods and have found them on the web. Let me know if you have any questions...I'll be happy to share.

Good luck, A.

Hi J.,

Yes I have had experiences with colonic irrigations and I would not recommend it ESPECIALLY for someone with irritable bowel syndrome. That might make matters worse for you if you are already deficient in friendly bacteria.

Colonic irrigation only cleanses part of the colon and requires many trips to finally see results. What you probably need is a full colon cleanse which can take about 3 months. The best I've ever used is Dr. Natura. It can be found at drnatura.com and is a system of fiber and natural ingredients to help loosen and remove the build up of fecal matter in the bowels. Beware, you may be grossed out by what you see as many people have submitted pictures of the waste. I can personally attest that I have used Dr. Natura and it greatly relieved my bloating and constipation. It was typical for me to go once every other day or less, but on Dr. Natura, I went as many as 2-3 times a day. It can get pricey, but well worth the money.

I've had IBS since I was a child. Here is how you cope, low stress, exercise (yoga is great), and diet. I've tried pretty much everything.

For dietary supplements (like fiber), recipe books, testimonials and good ideas go to:
http://www.helpforibs.com/.

I haven't tried colonic irrigation, but even if it works it will only be temporary. You must make a lifestyle change. IBS does not go away, but it can be managed and kept at bay.

I have lost 30 pounds and eliminated the bloated and irreagularity from my stomach. I feel better now than in my 20's and 30's. Good luck. I know of a great one in Kennedale/Mansfiled area if you do not have one.

I would say it is a quick fix. I have no experience or knowledge of it though. My suggestion is to mix some metamucil or fiber one in your morning drink to help digest your food properly. I know this helps my grandmother, aunts, etc. That's the advice their doctor gave them. Hope that helps.

I had a 2 colonics in my life - first one was ok -VERY uncomfortable though! 2nd one I bled with my first bm after it (I know - TMI!) and called them to ask if it ever happened to anyone else. They had NO idea, had NEVER heard of that happening, etc etc. Needless to say, I've never had one since! I, too, have IBS. My primary dr said that is a "catch-all" phrase and that to get a REAL diagnosis I needed a colonoscopy...so, planning that when i have funds :) (BTW, I am 32 yrs old BUT big family hx of colon cancer)

Penn & Teller (among others) did a bit on this not too long ago. In a nutshell, it's a quack that can potentially be dangerous. What's even scarier is that the people who often perform these really don't have any credentials or medical background.

Not sure if you've looked into other options such as changes to your diet, possibility of celiac or gluten intolerance, or other medications for ibs.

Might try the drug Amitiza. Also, you can get the cleaning program from Advocare to cleanse you system (10 day program). Then, try to gradually add fiber to your diet. Fiber One cereal is a good way to begin. One bowl gives you about 51 % of your RDA of Fiber. Don't over do it initially but you can eat brocolli and also forms of beans and peas to naturally add fiber, That is the best way. Good luck with this. You will feel better and not be sluggish. My last bit of advice is to make sure that you are drinking enough water. Take your weight (in pounds) and divide by 2. That is the number of ounces you need to comsume each day.

Yes, it helps and its not unpleasant. But its not a cure either. There are other things you need to do as well. I have IBS as well. Icecream and dairy seems to irritate the problem as well, so I've laid off these. Yogurt helps. Stress irritates the situation, so try yoga and other forms of relaxation to minimize stress. Drink lots of water and eat a high fiber diet. Kashi Go Lean Crunch with Soy milk is a yummy breakfast that doesnt irritate me. Silk Soy milk is good. Its an aquired taste at first but its not horrible. The vanilla is pretty good.
Exercise helps as well.
Zantac helps too, if I've eaten dairy or I'm having a 'spell'.
There's not a cure, but the things above help ease the irritation.

Hi J.. I am also an IBS sufferer. After talking with my doctor, his thoughts were that God made our bodies to take care of itself and he was not for colon irrigation at all. What I finally decided to do was go to my local health store and I got some colon cleanse. The pills were made of all natural ingredients, so I wasn't worried that they would hurt me in any way. Whether or not it is really good for me, at least I am regular again. I feel better and I don't feel like a bloated whale anymore, so it was worth it for me. I don't know if this is really helpful, but I thought I would share anyway. Good luck.

My grandkids would LOVE your name. They adore Junie B. Jones! I've never had colonic irrigation, but I have done a cleanse. Maybe you should start with that, if you haven't already. It's much milder, I think. The Vitamin Shoppe has one called "First Cleanse". That's the one I did, and I recommend it.
