Okay Im a single mom of a 6 and half year old daughter and a 5 and half year old son. I have a new little girl on the way due in late September early October. (Pretty much anytime this baby decides to arrive) I have never made it to any of my due dates my daughter was a week early and my son was born at 35 weeks but was doing great no nicu! This will be the very last time that I will be pregnant and I am making a huge deal for my two other kids out of it so they are excited.
This is what I haev so far.......
The kids are making their own Big Sister, Big brother shirts
we are going to put the new babies footprints after shes born on their shirts also
They have made picture frames and decorated them after baby is born a picture of big sister/ big brother and baby will be put in it
They are making the baby a blanket saying "We love our baby sister"
And a onsie for baby to wear with all our hand prints on it
We are also making baby bibs that say I love my big sister/big brother
The kids haev helped me get thigns for the baby and they are lovign doing the crafts. The kids will get a bag with all these goodies and more stuff from baby to them the day she is born and they will get to see her taken to the nursery after she is born also.
They are also involved in helping make the door hanger.
Is there anything else that anyone can think or has seen that makes this day very special for the older ones and the baby?

Sounds like you've already done a great job of getting them excited about the new baby! I always had gifts from the baby to big brother and/or big sister....something they're interested in. For example: Thomas the train, Geo Tracks, and Transformers were huge hits for my son. My daughter loved the "dress-up" clothes and Elmo books she got. So basically just find something special for the older siblings, since they've made so much for the new addition. Best of luck!

Buy them each something special just for them......something of their choosing within limits to help celebrate.....just to remind them they are still special.

I'm due with my 4th kiddo next week and we took our other 3 kids to build-a-bear and made a teddy for their new baby brother....they really enjoyed that.

With the additon of a new sibling. I always have a gift for the big brother or sister at the hospital. So when they see the baby for the first time. They also have something for them. When our youngest was born. I had dog tags printed for my sons ( with their name, AkA Big brother, phone number, relgion, blood type). Their Dad was a marine, so that it was a huge hit. The boys still where them and thier brother is nine months. For my Daughter I has a braclet personalize with her name on it. Which was also very special for her.

All of your ideas and the ones that you have been given are great and all things that we have done. One other thing that we did when our children were born was to have a sign that we put on our hospital/house door that asked people to speak to Big Sister/Brother first before asking about our new baby. We did this with each new baby and it always made the older siblings feel so special and it also allowed them to tell the visitor about their new baby. HTH.
