Hi Moms,

I'm going to be visiting some friends that we haven't seen in several years since they live out of state. Their children have really grown since we saw them last. I want to bring a little gift for each of them. They have 5 year old boy - I think I'm all set with that, but what do I get for a 10 year old girl? My kids are 5 and 3 so I don't know what girls that age like. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Another thought, with the warm weather coming, she might appreciate a new swim tube or other pool toy. My 10-year-old also still enjoys doing 100+ piece puzzles on a rainy day or coloring with markers on velvet art. The Dollar Tree even carries these... or a deck of cards and teach her how to play a fun card game you like -- my daughter is really into rummy right now! She might appreciate you spending time with her, telling funny stories about her folks while you play a game of cards : )

I'd suggest tween type jewelry, like at Claire's, maybe nail polish if her parents aren't opposed or if she likes to read the Emily Windsnap series is a lot of fun for that age. Have fun. If none of that works maybe something that represents the state where you live.

My niece is 8 and loves Hannah Montana and High School Musical especially. Maybe something HSM related? Also if shes a bit more mature, something for her room. I was thinking something from Spencer's Gifts. Glow in the dark stick-ups, or some sort of glow light or fountain? Just a thought..

The kids at our school are all of a suddden into "gimp". It has been around forever but they love it! You can get it at Jo-Ann's. It is a long plastic - rubbery string that you can create things with. Also, itunes gift card is always a hit!

My daughter just turned 10 and for the first time, she got some cash and gift cards to the local Mall. I took her there this past weekend and she had such a great time deciding for herself what to buy. It was a good budgeting experience too, since she had to decide which items she wanted more. In the end, she got a couple books, some earrings, and a jacket and was very happy. The nice thing about the mall or Wal-Mart is that they can get a variety of things from one gift card.

Since you don't know the girl, if you can afford it, I would suggest a small wallet with a gift card inside. WalMart or a bookstore are good choices. My poor daughter is 9 years old and unfortunately most of the gift ideas for her age are crafts - and she just is not into crafts. Those who know her get her sports goods, but most people don't think of that for a 9 year old. Each child is so different at this age. A gift card would let her choose. I'm sure whatever you get, they'll be excited that you thought of them!

Maybe a set of books? Bookstores have really nicely bundled gift sets for kids and it's something that would last and she could enjoy over and over.

HI J.,

How about a KLUTZ book? IT would combine a craft and a book idea and be easily returnable if she has different tastes? My kids like those books, there are alot of titles, subjects and fun ideas. They are usually at a kiosk in B&N or Borders, in an aisle in Michaels or Target.

Good luck,

It's nice of you to bring the kids gifts. 10 year old girls are interested in many things. I'd second the suggestion a book on how to make bracelets and add that a book on almost any craft would work e.g origami, shrink art jewelry, cooking for kids etc. Good luck

HI
My niece is 11 and anything Hannah Montana or Jonas Brothers works! A gift card to Claire's, Icing or any accessory place (they love that stuff!) works. Whatever is in your friends town of course.
Hope this helps.

Hi J.,

Webkinz or anything American Girl are popular with most girls that age. A Diary is also a great choice and will encourage writing. Books are great, but are dependant on their specific interests. My almost 10 year old is getting more interested in clothes and toiletries.

Best Wishes,
J. L.
