Advice on Delivering at Presby Dallas

Hi!
We just recently decided to have our baby at Presby Dallas instead of Baylor. Because we are doing our childcare classes and everything through Baylor, I'm just wondering what inside information I might need to know for Presby... special items to bring that we might not think about, or resources available that I might not find out about otherwise. Any advice would be helpful, I like to be informed!! Thanks so much...

Just an update, I freaked when everyone said it was $100.00/a night, but they apparently just changed it $50.00 a night, so that is much better.

What can I do next?

Oh my goodness....some things don't change. I had my oldest son at Presby Dallas 31 years ago and it was a nightmare. The nurses were sooooo soooooo rude.

I had a C there 2 years ago and loved everyone. The nurses were so helpful! There might have been an exception or two, but overall I was so pleased. In fact, I credit my success with breastfeeding to the nurses & lactation staff. They really seemed to care that that work out for me.

I had a bad experience at Presby Dallas too. Rude nurses!!! I had my 2nd child at St.Paul and everyone was fantastic. Baylor is also an excellent hospital to deliver in so if you have the choice I'd definitley deliver at Baylor Dallas.

I had my first child at Dallas Presby--I had the greatest doctor ever--Dr. Bertrand. But the absolute low point of the experience was the nurses!! Because I had a c-section, I had to stay for 4 agonizing days...and the nurses were incredibly unhelpful and outright rude. I don't know what advice to give you but to don't be afraid to stand up for yourself. congrats on the new baby!

Bring $100 per night for your own room. Check in as early as possible the day of delivery so that you can be sure to get your own room. Also, there was only one great nurse that I had on the 5th floor of the Margot Perot building. The majority of my nurses were not attentive or very nice. I enjoyed my doctors and the facility is really nice.

I had my son at Presby two years ago and am ready to deliver my 2nd in July. I had a wonderful experience all around. Great nurses/docs both in labor/delivery and after in recovery.

I agree to have you and your hubby's favorite snacks/food packed, or to have someone bring you something. Also the cash for a private room.

I know with my 1st I checked in, in advance so the paperwork was ready to go when I showed up to deliver. I am going to look into doing that again. Good luck!

I had my daughter there 2 years ago and I have to agree, I wasn't very happy with the nurses in general. One thing I learned was that you need to bring nail clippers for your baby. They told me they don't clip fingernails anymore and my daughter had the LONGEST fingernails. Needless to say, she scratched up her beautiful face. The nurses were a little condescending (sp?). Talked to me like I had never had a baby before. I had my two boys (16 and 11) at Baylor Dallas. Neither were a great experience. I actually prefer Presby over Baylor, but I think that your experience is dependent upon who is staffing that day. Yes, bring an extra $100 a day for your own room. The semi-private rooms were so small and there wasn't ANY privacy! Oh, and another thing I remember. The morning I went into the hospital I walked up to the check in desk and the nurse asked "What can I do to help you?" like I was interrupting her. I thought "Wow, you work in the maternity ward and woman comes in that you can tell she is in labor just by the look on her face and you have the nerve to ask a question like that?" Maybe I was being a little sensitive.

I'm sorry to hear of these bad experiences with Presby nurses. I've had two c-sections there in the past three years and had great experiences. No rude nurses or other staff members; the cafeteria was a bit of a walk for my husband, but our favorite memory of the hospital stay was the night he went to the cafeteria late at night, bought a whole bunch of things and we had a great late night dinner together while our newborn snoozed.

My first delivery at Presby Dallas was as a gestational surrogate, and everyone was fantastic to me (if perhaps a bit "tip toe-y" since I guess they weren't familiar with surrogacy arrangements?) and the baby's parents.

I hope your experience was as good as mine were and I hope hearing about a couple of negative experiences isn't enough to put you off or being nervous about delivering your child at Presby Dallas.

Good luck to you and enjoy your little girl!
