Ack! 13 Month Old May Have Swallowed a Plum Pit!

My 13 month old may have accidentally gotten ahold of a plum pit and swallowed it. I had taken my eyes off him for literally ten seconds and did not see him bite into the plum, but when I turned back to him, he had the plum torn apart in his hands and there was no pit anywhere to be seen. He was and has been acting totally normal, no breathing issues or even reference to swallowing it. The only reason I think he could have swallowed it is because there was no pit in the plum and I have no idea where it could have gotten (since plums typically have pits). The nurse said it should pass in 2-5 days, and there is no reason to take him in because pits don't show up on X-rays (because they just look like stool). But I can't help but be worried. We are watching his stools for it, if he had swallowed it. Anyone have experience with this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My son did not swallow the plum pit. I checked his stool for days, and watched his behavior. Never found anything, and he was fine. So the plum just thankfully did not have a pit!!

The nurse gave you standard advice. A plum pit is small (not at all like a peach pit), and it's smooth. You probably won't even notice it when it's eliminated - it will likely be right in the middle of his stool. Kids do this all the time - I know it feels different when it's your kid and your plum pit, but I think there's a very low likelihood that there will be any problem whatsoever.

The nurse gave you some good advice.
Just wait and check his diapers.
Kids swallow all kinds of weird things.
I'd be super worried if it were magnets or batteries because those are serious trouble.

Did you ask what to feed him? You should know how the doctor feels about constipation or loose stools - both ends of the spectrum.

It's going to be important that you actually go to the difficulty of really checking for that pit (sorry!) If it doesn't pass, the doctors need to know it. Be vigilant.
