My 16 month old son loves plums, peaches and nectarine. Yesterday he found the yellow plums inside my shopping bag and started to munch on it. He gobbled the entire plum in minutes and made a small cry (as though he bit his own finger) as he finished his last bite. I can't find the pit anywhere and began to worry. He show no sign of distress, he is eating/drinking normally. Should I be worry?

So What Happened?

IT PASSED!!!!! YAY!!! I fed him bulky food, lots of green beans, corn, peach, applesauce. It came out after 24 hours along with all the fibers. There were no signs of streaking blood (I had to check), and his stool this morning was normal. Phew!! thanks for all your great advice, you all are saving grace! THANK YOU.

it'll pass. One of my parent's favorite stories of me (still!) is that once time they took me to the beach, where I was most content playing with a peach pit. Then, poof, it was gone. No idea how I managed to swallow that huge pit, but clearly I'm no worse for the wear! If he didn't choke on it, he's fine now.

My boys have swallowed many a pit in their day and it usually comes out with no problems. I wouldn't worry unless he seems very uncomfortable.

Well, accidents do happen but if I saw a 16 month old with a plum I would immediately remove the pit. If it took him several minutes to eat it then you had time to remove it.
Same thing with seeded grapes, nectrines, anything with a pit.
Ok, that being said...watch his poo, poke thru it for about a week (or longer if, when you tell doc what happened he/she recommends a longer search for the pit)
The child should pass it.
Think you should give the doc a call and let him/her know what is going on.
Best wishes and God bless

I don't think they're poisonous. It should pass. Check every poopy diaper to be sure. If he shows any signs of distress in the abdominal are such as any unusual swelling, tenderness or even general lethargy bring him to the ER immediately and tell them he swallowed a plum pit and what day and time it happened.

My Uncle's young 5 year old sister was eating a plum and and the pit became lodged in her wind pipe and she died right there in front of everyone.
A childs trachea is about the size of a drinking straw, so anything larger than this is a potential aspiration risk. This web sit has more info, http://www.health.state.ny.us/prevention/injury_preventio...
I know of a young child that swallowed a dried bean. He didn't choke on it, but it lodged in his lung and swelled up blocking his airway and he died.

It will pass through this insides ok,it is small enough, the only thing I would be a little concerned with when it passes through his bum. It might be scratchy and uncomfortable. Feed him lots of bulk forming fiber to help surround it, and ease it through. Whole wheat bread, shredded wheat cereal, broccoli, applesauce etc. My cousins baby bit into a glass ornament and swallowed some (!) and thats what the ER dr. told her to do. Good Luck, and let us know how it all "comes out"!

i don't really think you have anything to worry about, butmaybe you should ask a nurse about what happened because it sounds like it hurt going in and chances are it may hurt coming out. so yes you should definatly get a medics advice
