4 1/2 Week Old Boy Has Lumps in Both Breasts

I seem to remember something similar in my little boy about the same age. The doctor told me that it was because of hormones. If you are very concerned, please call your pediatrician and have them look at him. It is better to call and it be nothing than...well it end up being something.

Both my boys had them. I think they're called nipple buds. They go away on their own eventually. Nothing to worry about, but always good to mention to your doc at the well-check.

these are hormones...from you. if you arent breastfeeding they should go away soon if you are breastfeeding they may not go away til after you are finished breastfeeding. my daughter had them and they never bothered her. unless they hurt him i wouldnt worry about it.

My son had lumps on his breast also. I called my pediatrician and she said it was milk built up in him. Sounds weird I know. I pushed on them and milk came out. I don't know that it was causing any pain for him or not. I squeezed it all out and it went away. She said that it is from the hormone changes they go through.

I would double check with your pediatrician but what it sounds like to me is something called gynocomastia which is swelling of the breast tissue of newborns due to the high level of maternal hormones. If that is what it is it will go away on its own in the first few months. My daughter had it (she also had a mini-period for a week or so) and the breast swlling went down by the time she was 2 months old or so. Good luck!

Me personally i wouldn't worry about it but i would be sure to bring it up at his baby well visit. If it was one or the other i would be much more concerned but since it's in both more than likely it's supposed to be there. But you can't go wrong in asking the doctor and since he's so young they come often...lol good luck

My second daughter was the same...it has something to do with your homones still in your baby (if I remember right). It should be okay. I would just make sure that when you bring your baby into your next appointment to make sure the doc checks it out to be sure it is okay. My daughters got really hot as well, like it was infected, and still the doctor said it was okay...and it eventually went away. My daughter even had milk leaking from her. Human bodies will continue to be a wonder!!

My son who was born in October had the same thing. Doctors told me it was from the extra hormones from me and it would go away. It did, completely and now everything is fine.

Check with your doctor, but it is probably fine. My son had a lump under one breast at about that age. My doctor told me that it was due to estrogen that was still in his body from me, and that it would go away quickly. It did - it was there less than a week. But, it's always best to check with his doctor.

Usually if it is bilateral, it is ok. (meaning it is happening on both sides.) However, I would still have it checked out.

If you are nursing, then it is just the hormones giving him "milk" it will go away in a week or two (or at least it did for my son) its perfectly normal though! I have boys, too, so I freaked out when it happened to my 2nd! haha!

Both of my sons had this. I freaked out and took my first one to the doctor and she explained it to me. He was fine. So when my second one was born and had the same phenomenon I was more relaxed. Both times they went away without a problem.
