Hi C., Since your son is only two weeks old, you will be going to a check up very soon, I would bring it up to the MD for sure. Most offfices have a nurse that can take these questions over the phone and consult with the Pediatrician and tell you to come in sooner than the next check up. Call your Ped and talk to the nursing staff. Peace of mind. congrats on your son! Deb

both of my kids had this (1 boy 1 girl) and the doc. said it's totally normal. its from the hormones and it goes away. no big deal. she said some baby girls even have a very light "period when they're newborns. also normal. dont wory :)

I took my older daughter to the doctor for the same thing when she was a couple of weeks old. They said it was completely normal and something like it is from your hormones that are still left in his body and will go away on its own in a couple of weeks to months.

Hello, Anytime you are concerned about your baby you should ask his doctor. There is no such thing as being too concerned. It is good that you are so aware of his little body and noticed this lump. It will probably be nothing, but best to check. It could be glan and maybe he has had a cold or something which may have caused it to be enlarged.
Good luck with your precious little baby.

Hi C.,

My daughter had the same thing when she was just about the same age. I took her to the doctor and found out that it was just a little fatty tissue. It went away after a few weeks. It might be a good idea to take him to the doctor, though, just for your peace of mind.

Good luck on your new baby boy!

Sincerely,
L.

Almost all babies (including boys) lactate after birth for several weeks. Most people just don't know this happens. I bet if you really (gently) squeezed his breast, milk drops would come out. As with all breast milk it is supply and demand. Just leave the breast alone (after you discover if it is infact milk creating the lump) and it will go away. When the babies are born, the hormones that cause US to lactate are in them too. It seems odd, but, all humans have mamory glands and can produce milk. Don't be scared!

It is totally normal. I freaked out when my son developed one, but the pediatrician said it was the extra hormones during pregnancy working their way out of his system (or something to that effect). His lump very quickly disappeared and we never had a problem.

I would definitely have it checked. My girlfriend discovered a lump on her 3 day old baby and it turned out to be a staph infection. Get it chesked ASAP. I don't mean to scare you but better to be safe than sorry!
