My son lives off of hand me downs from his cousin a year older, but the problem is all the jeans we get have big holes in the knees so I need to purchase some jeans. Where do you recommend the best quality, for best price to get kids jeans. It has to be available online because I have little to no shopping available where I live except for Walmart.

Second question our fitted bed sheet constantly rides up on the top corners. So my half way through the night you are basically sleeping on a crumpled bed sheet and the mattress pad. My hubby and I both move a lot in our sleep but this is the first bed sheet I've ever had do this in all 8 year of my marriage (probably because I bought the cheapest bed sheet available at Walmart). Any ideas for how to keep it down?

What can I do next?

Hi L.---I've always taken the worst of the holey jeans and used them as patches for the others. My almost 21 year old still wears patched jeans... not so much in the knees these days, they come that way, but sometimes the back pockets rip at the top, and several pairs have developed holes around the zipper area.

For the bed sheets, they make garters, little elastic straps with clips, just like they used with old fashioned stockings, that you attach to the sheet on each side of the corner. I have one set of sheets, perfectly good/no wear, but the elastic is shot and rides up as you describe. You could probably find those at Walmart. You might have to look online at someplace like Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Good luck! D.

In terms of clothes and even bed sheets, I would rather do a sale item somewhere else of a better quality than walmart brand. I love walmart for cleaning supplies, paper plates etc. But not for kids clothes. They beat up their suppliers to a penny, it's very cheap labor, cheap fabric, threads and make and the price point at walmart for kids clothes is not cheap.

I would cut the jeans make them into shorts. It so funny how the designer jeans cost way more with holes in them.

Martha Stewart makes very good sheets, they have huge pockets to solve the problem. you can find brand new free shipping on eBay. I buy mine at the departament stores on clearance in advance for all of my bedrooms and guest room. I love and recognize great quality, but i dont like to pay full price ever :) The bedsheets are worth spending extra, look for 100% cotton and the higher the thread count the better. It makes a huge difference, you will live it and you will have it for a long time.

Consignment shops, eBay, even kids online stores ( old navy, gap, the Children's place, kids gap) offer free shipping and additional discounts. I
usually shop after the season shopping for the next year. If you get better quality things, they don't get damaged and you can always re sale it. Happy smart shopping!!!!

For the sheet - you can buy these clip strap things, I think they are called sheet garders? You can probably find them at Walmart. They are cheap and come with 4 in a pack. Look by the sheet section. They are an elastic strap with a clamp little thing on each end. You put them at each corner of your mattress to hold your sheet down - they go under the mattress and clip to the sheet on each side of the corner, not the mattress itself (sorry if this is totally confusing) They can actually be used to be able to use a flat sheet as a fitted sheet, so they should hold it down.

Target or Old Navy Jeans are my favorite for the price. I always wait for them to be on sale for $10 at Old Navy and Target usually does Clearance pretty quickly with their inventory.

Not sure what to do for the bed... sorry?

I don't know how old your son is, but we get a lot of jeans at the coinsignment shops. That offers you a great deal at a 1/4 of the price. I know you said there isn't a lot around you, but that's where I'd start looking. Next would be craigslist. You have to look often...

Good luck!

try the Childrens Place they have an online site they are ususally pretty low priced but the quality is good. Also Amazon.com has clothes for kids at reasonable prices. Amazon also has the garter things to hold your sheets on.

I have 4 kids, and I always get their jeans from Sears. If you get their brand (Canyon something -- I haven't had coffee yet LOL), and the knees wear out, bring them in & they will replace them. GREAT deal!
On the bed sheet - I don't know where I found mine, but there are these elastic straps with fasteners on each end that we use to keep our daughter's sheets on the bed. Maybe ask at Joanne's? G/L and HTH

Sign up for email specials (or search 'coupon code' on the internet for coupon/promo codes for various brands) with Old Navy & Children's Place, etc. You might also try naartjiekids.com. They usually have the best deals in-store, but sometimes you can find clearance stuff on-line too. LandsEnd (Sears). They have jeans/pants with double reinforced knees. And like someone else suggested, I used to sew the jean patches onto the inside of my son's jeans beFORE they get holes in the knee, then touch up iron them after a few washings otherwise they seem to fall off. Although, it doesn't necessarily sound like it's YOUR son that is putting the holes in the jeans... ;)

Can't help you on the sheets. I had a cheap set that did that, and I finally 'upgraded'. Check 2nd hand stores in your area - if you have one. I've found nice sheets for cheaper than cheap there.

For inexpensive jeans go to Salvation Army, Good Will or Deseret Industries or garage sales.

To keep the fitted sheet down on the mattress, use a safety pin at the very corner or get some garters and attach them at the corner across the edges of the sheets so it looks like a triangle. I've used both of these solutions.

Good luck to you and yours.

Check the Children's Place and Oshkosh websites. When they run sales on denim, you can pick up boys' jeans for $10-12 a pair. The Oshkosh jeans are quite sturdy, but the rather stiff button fasteners on some of their jeans can be a problem for little hands. The Children's place jeans aren't quite as well made, but are usually able to get through one kid, and usually snap. Gymboree jeans are good, but rarely come down below $20 unless they are on clearance (They are having a 19.95 sale right now online). Gap Kids jeans also last qutie well, but again, rarely under $20.

To extend the life of the Children's place jeans (or Walmart jeans), get iron-on patches, turn the jeans inside-out, and iron on the patches at the knees for reinforcement.

The best pants I found for my son - and this was a few years ago before the denim quality across the board was drastically downgraded - were from Tommy Hillfiger. Although they cost 2x more than Wranglers, they lasted 3x to 4x longer. I don't know if they are available through mail order, but you could try.

For your bed sheet, sew or safety pin a 1/4" elastic stay on each corner of your bedsheet. Cut the 4 pieces ofelastic so that it they are long enough to extend diagonally under the 4 corners of your mattress, about 6 to 10 ". Pin the ends of the elastic so that each end is about 4" to 5" away from the corner and the elastic extends diagonally under the mattress. I wish I could make a drawing for you. I don't think this explanation is very clear. You can leave them on when you wash your sheets.

I have a regular sheet fitted over a 2" foam bed topper. Normally, there is no way the sheet would stay on. This technique has done really well for me for years despite this complication. It should work for you, too.

we buy jeans at sears... I go for the clearance because they still have the guarantee. If they wear out before the child grows out of them then they will replace them for free... I can get them on the clearance rack for $7 a pair.

To fix your bed sheet...the best thing is to buy a new one, but if that won't work take a piece of wide elastic and sew it on the long side and on the top going diagonal, so that when you make your bed you have your bed sheet on and then the elastic holds in in place because it is under your mattress.

When my son was younger and prone to those knee holes (air conditioning as I called it), the brand UP--Urban Pacific or something like that--from Kohl's held up the best. They can be on the pricier side like anything else at Kohl's but I watched for sales and their percent off coupons to save money. Now if I could just get my daughter to stop tearing the knees but she likes it that way. She says it makes it easier to skateboard.

"sheet grippers" I saw them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond online.

I like them a lot better than the "garter" kind. They are quite hard to put on the first couple times, but hold GREAT-- even when we put the head of our adjustable bed all of the way up.

Both things you need are at Walmart. They have jeans there and they last as well as the ones you pay way too much money for. Kids grow out of a size in about 6 months, the jeans we get there go through at least one more child after our guy is done with them.

In the housewares, bed linen area of Walmart you will see some things that look like garter snaps. They will have elastic bands with them, this is one kind of fastener for bed sheets, there are others we have bought there too. One is a rubber like material with a ball on the end. The ball pops through a hole and the rubber sticks together a bit and they hold the sheets firm.

re: sheets. We moved 4 times/4 years. Sold beds, etc.... thought we were getting a king but we didn't have the money. However, I had already bought king sheets. Now I don't mind changing sheets anymore because there is no stretching/riding up. You can tuck the extra material (what little there is) underneath. So, I'm putting king on a queen; my daughter was given a double bed & her queen sheets go on there as well.

Old Navy always has sales. It's a great place for kids' jeans.

I love, love, love Baby Gap jeans for my boys. They fit them great and seem very comfortable. I have tried some other jeans and they seem kind of rough and don't fit my boys as well.

Let’s see online- Id normally shop at Old Navy for my son and the prices are not bad and the quality of the jeans are pretty good as well. Another place is sears, they have a program with the kids section Levi brand were if they tare or any type of hole comes about, you can exchange them for a new pair at any given time "Keep Receipt"

And for the sheet - I’m pretty sure if you check at Bed and Bath they have something for that problem..
