Your Favorite Specialty Appliance/Tool

So a couple of weeks ago I asked about your favorite appliance. I got lots of answers...but realized I'd asked the question wrong, and wasn't really getting what I was looking for. So I'm trying again.

Ladies, what is your favorite specialty appliance or tool? Why is it the best? How has it made your life easier? What's your favorite thing about it? I don't mean regular stuff like refrigerators, washers, stoves; I'm talking brand name stuff like the Shark Steam Mop or the NuWave Oven or the Showtime Rotisserie.

I love my Kitchen Aid mixer. :-) I also love my Keurig coffee maker.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Jo: Huh? I didn't ask about the price of anything, I'm asking what your favorite specialty appliance/tool is. It's already IN your home, so you probably did get a good bargain. :-)

Riley: Oh, yes...I love my knives. I have Cutco. They are very comparable to Wusthof. Beautiful and a joy to use.

Also not a fan of "specialty" appliances because I TRY to be minimalistic in the kitchen, but I've gotta say, my Proctor-Silex Electric Tea Kettle has transformed my mornings! (Boils water, then auto shut off.)

I also like my Rival Crock Pot.

Still my dishwasher at #1 :)

What I use everyday and would go hungry to replace is my chefs knife. It's Wustoff, but Henkles would be as good. Nothing less. A cheap knife makes cooking miserable.

Slow cooker crockpot (was a godsend when I had an infant). I can put thing in for a meal & forget about it. Dinner is ready when you get home.

Kitchen-Aid mixer. Easy to use.

Mini espresso machine. Have had it forever. Saved me lots of $ to make
my own mochas & cappuccinos.

My favorite and most used item is our apple slicer. You just position it over the apple so the little circle is over the core, then push down. You get a perfectly cored apple and a bunch of ready to eat slices. I used it at least once a day. The only thing that would make it a miracle tool is if it took the peel off too, but that would be asking for perfection. (I eat the peels but my five year old is very anti apple peel which means more work for me...)

I LOVE my mandolin . Actually I have three - the stainless steel large classic one - rarely use. I little tiny plastic Japanese one - use it all the time and a mid size inexpensive plastic one - use this one the most. For slicing - it is fantastic - perfectly uniform either thin or medium. Does a perfect julienne. And no one else in the house will use it for fear of losing the skin on their knuckles - so it is all mine.

I also love my Kitchen Aid Mixer - I do not consider this a specialty appliance - it is a necessity in the well stocked kitchen.

Totally love my emusion blender. Its something I never knew I needed and now cannot live without. Picked it up on a whim at Costco. I never have to use my blender anymore-as a matter of fact its now in my goodwill pile.
I make smoothies, milkshakes, margaritas with it along with mixing dressings and sauces. Cleans up super easy too and it does not take up space.

I have a Kitchen Aid mixer that I used maybe twice in 10 years both times to make bread. Maybe I just don't bake enough. Also that thing is heavy! I store it in the basement pantry and its a pain to get.

I couldn't live without my Pampered Chef Forged Cutlery Knives - very heavy and good quality (I'm a consultant, so I'm biased). Aside from those, I love my Cuisinart mini food processor. Maybe it holds about 2 cups? I make home made hummus, dips, dressings, etc. Quick & easy every time. I also had a Krups immersion blender stick thing that I used to smooth out soups, sauces, etc. Recently broke after many years of fine service & I need a replacement.

I usually don't like specialty appliances, because they take up space. I have a Shark Steam Mop, but I usually find it easier and more convenient to wash the floor by hand with soapy water. I also have a Shark hand held that was fun for a while, but I haven't used in a very long time. My slow cooker is supposed to be a multi-purpose appliance, but the only thing I can seeem to cook in it is pulled pork, so it is a specialty appliance. I really like my Sunbeam Mixmaster. I really like most of the little gadgets I get from Pampered Chef. I would love to get a Dyson vaccum.

My Whirpool Polara refrigerated range. It's an oven that is also a refrigerator; it looks just like a standard slide-in oven. I put my meal in it in the morning, set the program to cool until it's time for it to cook, around 4:30pm. I come home, and dinner is ready and waiting!! Also, if I need extra refrigerator space, I just set it to cool...I have put lettuce and wine in the oven to keep it cold before use at party time. It self-cleans, has a convention oven feature and a glass top.

I don't think Whirpool makes it anymore...they never promoted it, and it is a must-have for folks who work outside the home. It adds an extra hour to my free time in the evening. I am so glad that I bought it when I did.

I have a couple ceramic knives I can't live without.
I love love love my Cuisinart immersion blender!
I can puree hot soup right in the pot, or blend a smoothie right in the pitcher - no messy transferring to a blender and back again.
The mixing end detaches and is dishwasher safe.
We also have a George Foreman grill with detachable plates that are dishwasher safe.
If things don't clean up easy, they don't get used.

I love my Kitchen Aid Toaster Oven.

This past week, the timer button broke and I don't want a new toaster oven, I like this one... it is great quality, and exactly what I wanted.

I called Kitchen Aid and I was told they don't make mine anymore and the no longer use the timer dials. SO, they are sending me a new function dial for free. I can use my old function dial (you can't read the function anymore because it is so used) for the timer and have a new function dial. All done with 1 phone call!! I love Kitchen Aid.

My favorite is the store that is sell the product I want at the lowest price. Since most stores no longer have customer loyalty seems there is no reason for me to be loyal back.

I figure out what product I want, do research to figure out what is the best, and then I research who has it cheapest.
