Hi,
I went to my OBGYN today for my 6 week visit after giving birth to our 2nd child. She put me on YAZ birth control. I didn't ask any questions about this pill while at the office but looked online when I got home. I read very negative things about this pill and was wandering if any of you had trid it and your thoughts.
Thanks so much in advance.
C.

I have been on it for about a year now and I love it. I have had no side effects and really short periods.

I went on YAZ after weaning my son (after nursing for a year)and for the month I was on it I had 6 migraines and other side effects. I am very sensitrive to hormones. I went off it and haven't had a migraine since. If you get migraines, you might want to talk to your doctor about another choice. Good luck.

I think everyone is different, and only YOUR BODY can tell you if Yaz is right for you. I have friends who swear by it and think it is great. I was on it for about 6 months and I felt like I was going crazy. I had 1-2 weeks a month where I just felt completely psycho, and my husband felt like he was walking through a mine field! So I went back to my OBGYN and said it wasn't working for me. If your doctor thinks it was right for you, I say try it for a few months. See how your body responds to it, if it doesn't work for you there are a ton of other options. You just have to find the one the has the right combination of hormones that works well with your body. Good luck and congrats on your new baby!

I was on another brand of birth control that really messed me up so I"m a little bias on this. With that being said, I understand your situation but I would REALLY do the research on YAZ, it comes with a lot of problems... Not one a new mother should be dealing with, or anyone for that matter. YAZ has only been on the market about 2 yrs now and it already has a really bad name. I would call the dr back and ask for another method that has been around a lot longer. Personally, the only good things I have heard about this pill has come from the commercials and not any real people. Good luck!

I just started taking it this past Sunday and I haven't heard anything negative about it. I've got several friends that are on it and they have no complaints either. I had a tubal over a year ago so I'm on it for maintance basicly for my periods and PMS. Guess I'll have to do some digging and find out what all is going on with this stuff. What all have you (or anyone else) heard about YAZ?? Please feel free to send me a message.

Thanks
S.

Update 6-24
Been taking Yaz a week this past Sunday and the only thing I've noticed it breast tenderness, like I'm getting ready to start my period. But I'm marking it up to my body getting used to the pill.

Update 7-9
Well, I only took them for a month and that was plenty long enough for me not to take them EVER AGAIN!!! Going into week 2 on them I lost my libido big time!! I'm talking no intrest in sex let alone my husband even touching me at all!! NADA, ZIP, ZILCH!! I also started getting depression like symptoms. I flet very bland, empty, and blah. And I gained 6+lbs in 3 weeks alone which didn't help my mood either! Between my son getting sick last week being very cranky and crying and my "don't care about anything" attitude, my hubby said he was about to go live in our camper to get away from us both!! lol I've been off the pills for day #4 now and I'm not feeling as full in the middle and I feel lighter attitude wise. My hubby even commented last night how I'm starting to come back to my normal self again!! I'd rather deal with heavy periods and PMS than go back on YAZ again!!

Sorry this is so long, but now one else has really put anything out there in detail how it has effected them. I googled for side effects and what I mentioned is the biggest complaint from just about everyone!!

I went on it for a stint after I finished breast feeding. It usually takes up to 3 months for the pill to help mood, etc. I stoppped taking it shortly after I started because I use lots of anti-inflamatory drugs to control a medical condition. The packaging strictly says NSAIDs are not good to take with YAZ and Yasmine because it can cause liver problems.
Everyone else I hear from who's taken it likes it since it regulates periods and helps with mood. If you're not having mood issues, I might consider something else for a birth control.

I was on yaz for a few months and noticed i experienced upset stomache, haif shedding and a increase in yeast. I personally would not reccomend it. If you are breastfeeding there is a birth control of that.

I was put on YAZ a little over a year ago and loved it. I had no cramps come period time and my face never broke out. I did not realize how much I liked it until my husbands insurance changes and we now have horrible prescription coverage so I had to switch to a cheaper one, I just finished a whole pack of those and I am bloated, my face and back are broken out and I am very moody which does not happen with YAZ. I loved it.

C.,

I've been on Yaz since shortly after my daughter was born (she is going to be 3 in Aug) and I haven't really had any problems with it. It did seem like my Ob/Gyn was leaning towards that particular pill, probably b/c of all the buzz about it and the commercials so the company is probably promoting it hard, but after reading your post, you have me curious as to what you've read that has been bad about this particular birth control. Can you let me know what very negative things you've heard or what links you found to negative data regarding Yaz? I have read that each woman can respond to different brands of pills differently--I'm fortunate that I am pretty regular even off the pill and haven't had any remarkable side effects from any brand/type of BCPs I've taken over the years. If you decide to go with Yaz, it seems like if your body responds to it okay, then you'll be fine with that recommendation from your doc.

After having my third child, I was put on this as well. After having my period for 21+ days, I was switched to Seasonale. Been great since- no breakthrough bleeding and you cannot beat having only 4 periods a year. There is a generic, so it is not expensive either. Good luck!

Congrats on your baby! You can not believe everything that you read on-line. I would advise you to consult your doctor with questions and concerns. Everyone's body acts differently to birth controls, I am sure your doctor would not of put you on it if he did not approve of the drug.If the birth control was that bad they would take it off the market.

I used to take Yazmin which came out before YAZ with great success, but I have had SEVERAL friends take YAZ that had problems. Most of them were mood related. There are so many choices out there I would use whatever worked for you in the past or try the Yazmin as it still has the diuretic in it and as I understand it has more mild response than the new "improved" YAZ.
Hope that helps,
S.
