I would like to know if anyone else has had a bad experience with YAZ BCP? I am a typically very calm and easygoing kind of person, but lately have started feeling very anxious about things. I am on my fourth pack of the YAZ pill and just feel totally out of control with my emotions. I've lost weight without really wanting to, have no appetite, no sex drive(and I mean NONE) and feel more irritable than usual. I start obsessing about my kids getting sick or me becoming sick and unable to take care of them. I also get stomach aches at the thought of eating so therefore, dont eat a whole lot. SO... I started doing some research online and found several forums where other ladies had become overly anxious and had out of control emotions after taking YAZ. I also read that YAZ is prescribed for women with PMDD and that if you DO NOT have PMDD that you should not take YAZ bc it can have opposite affects on you. My OB and PCP both wanted me to go on an antidepressant, but I want to know if its that pill that has been causing me so much grief before I take a medicine I may not need. So last night I threw out the remaining pills(seven of them) and did not take the usual dose and guess what...I already notice a difference in how I feel. When I called the GYN nurse this morning, she said that it would do my body good to just go off of any oral bcp and that she had never heard of anyone becoming anxious on that pill but that it was possible. I dont mean to write a novel, but wanted you to know the history behind my request. If anyone else has had problems like I described after taking YAZ, please let me know. Thanks everyone.

I got terrible headaches right before my period. When I told my doctor about, they changed my medication. I am on Yazmin and it is much better.

I don't know anything specific about YAZ but I do know for a fact that birth control pills of all types can affect your emotions deeply causing depression. I was on a pill that was not supposed to cause depression and ended up taking an antidepressant because I felt so bad and did not attribute my feelings to the low dose BCP. When I stopped the pill to try to get pregnant I felt better suddenly and was able to stop the antidepressant and feel totally normal again. So I believe you have done the right thing by throwing it out.

I've written about this twice before, so I hope people don't get tired of hearing it, lol....but I never had pms before my son was born. Previously I'd taken yasmin, no issues to speak of (maybe some weight gain, but I don't think so). After my son was born, I felt like I had some pms for the first time. I spoke to my OBGYN and asked about Yaz b/c the commercials promised so cool things. I went CRAZY on it. I was angry, moody, upset, cried, got suicidal feelings, very nervous, didn't want to be touched, let alone sex. My husband said it started about a week after I switched to Yaz. I waited 2 months and it did not get better (was getting worse) so I called my OBGYN and had him switch me back to yasmin immediately. Within a few days, I was feeling better. Within a week or 2, it was totally gone and I was back to the old me. I think that pill is WACK for some people!!!

I had the same issues with YAZ - very anxious, irritable, no sex drive. It took me a couple of months to realize what was going on, but when I quit taking YAZ I went back to my normal self and I feel so much better. So, you are not crazy! I thought I was the only one so I am glad that I am not. Hang in there. You are smart to really listen to your body and try to see what is causing it before you take an antidepressant.

I tried YAZ for a couple of months at the advice of my OB/GYN and was previously on Yasmin and he told me that it was almost the same thing but that it was taken longer and helped with all the "bad" parts of that time of the month. So I took it the first month with no period and felt a little out of sorts. Called and told them that I had missed my period and they said that was normal when changing to a different kind of pill to give it one more month so I did. Second month no period so then I freaked thinking that I was pregnant and instead of feeling a little out of sorts I was certifiably crazy!!!! I couldn't do anything without having some kind of emotional break down. So I called and demanded that I be put back on Yasmin (because I hadn't had problems with it in the past) and they put me on Effexor for my anxiousness that developed while on the medications and that worked for about a week but then I was super sensitive to that and stopped taking that and now everything is all better on just plain ol' yasmin!

Yep, same thing for me! Just the opposite though with weight...I felt like I had to eat everything in the house! Definitely no sex! Very moody...mad, sad, depressed! Went back to Yasmin....much better now!!! What's funny is they say Yaz and Yasmin are the same thing just that Yaz has a much lower dose of estrogen....guess some women just need that more!! I sure do!

My friend tried and it got REALLY depressed and moody. She stoped taking it after a week. Too bad, I thought it might help me out, but now I am reluctant to try it.

Hey L.,

I actually had to get off the YAZ because it was not helping my periods at all. Then I noticed that I was edgy and was not in a good mood alot. My doctor tried all different kinds of oral medicines and he said that my body just wont respond to them? So I tried the Nuva Ring and it worked for a while but I had some problems with it. So now I am on the IUD. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I have only been on it right at 2 mos now so things are just getting back to normal as far as the periods go. Maybe you could ask your doctor about that? Just a thought!!! Good luck.

hi L., I also became anxious and had NO sex drive as well. I thought it was just me. I talked to my doctor about it and he said they put people on it to help improve their sex drive! opposite for me! I got off and feel better, and my sex drive has improved. We are using condomns for now, until we can decide who should get fixed. LOL. Good luck to you.

L.,
I only had to finsh one pack of thse pills to feel like I was going to freak out. It made me terribly depressed and anxious as well. It took me about a month to feel like it was out of my system. PLEASE stop taking it TODAY. I looked on the internet and there are tons of reports, even on pharmaceutical and pharmacy websites that say this birth control pill can induce depression. I was so cranky and sad, I called the doctor and told her about it. She perscribed something else to me - this too, however was a "high dose" pill and I decided against taking this as well. My research said all high dose pills could cause these kind of problems.

Either switch to a low dose, or if this not appropriate, use another flrom of birth control. What you definately do NOT want to do is to add an antidepressant. Antidepressants have lots of side affects and will cause you to go through withdrawl when you stop taking them.

I'm so sorry about the trouble you've been having. I wish I would have seen this post this summer, I really wondered what was going on...Good luck.
