I'm a home based business consultant and yes there are many however be very careful. Not all are ligitimate. I place people in Home Based Businesses for part timie, full time or spare time and you can make a lot of money working from home. It is great when you have small children so you can be home for them and work your own schedule and own your own life.

That would be my advice to you. There are a lot of "work from home" jobs that are scams. Not all of them are, and for the others, you would need some sort of education or training. With a network marketing company, you usually get trained by your sponsor or the person that signs you up. Some of them have a great compensation plan. I'm an Arbonne consultant and enjoy what I do. I work my busines when I want to and around my family's schedule. To give you an idea on my family life... I'm a stay at home mom of 4 and we home school. But, to answer T.'s question, I'd say you want to evaluate your skills first, and the time you have available. Then look on a at-least-somewhat-legit website like http://homebusiness.about.com for some ideas that match up.
