I am happily selling Mary Kay and have been successful for the last 10 years in Richardson. I started when my oldest was 3 years old and we just moved here. I knew 2 people in Texas so I can relate to how you are feeling. I whole heartly expected to fail, very optimistic (lol) however, I just followed the plan consistantly giving about 6 - 8 hours a week around my family. It truely the best opportunity on the planet for women bar none!!

The support and mentoring you recieve is incredible. We all have the fear of failure, but if you don't step out of comfort zone you'll never know. You must know all the benefits of working from home around your family. Plus the added MK benefits of great money, prizes, support, encouragement, living the life style that you dream about!

P.S. Someone below made a negative comment about inventory. Don't let that stop you. Think about the last store you went to with a list. How many other things did you come home with that weren't on your list?? We sell more, we retain our customer base because we can deliver on the spot and we can cater to those who need something fast!! My customers love me because I can service them on the spot! If they need a last minute gift they call me, if they ran out of thier cleanser last night they call me and have it the next day! And if you decide not to continue you can send it back to the company so you're not stuck. (Major selling point for me!)

It can be a very successful business, if you're willing to work hard for it. You do get to work when you want to, but you have to be sure to fit it in where you can. I am an Independant Consultant for a different network marketing company, but it works a lot the same way as Mary Kay does. It is so important to get in with a team that is VERY supportive, and to believe 100% in the products. This is important in ANY network marketing business. There will be frustrating moments, but if you stick with it, it can be VERY lucrative.

Good luck in making your decision! Be sure to do plenty of research!

Don't look at others around you, look at yourself. Do you have the right personality, are you a go-getter? I considered Mary Kay and even went to one of their meetings, but decided against it. I just am too introverted to do well at that. You mentioned that you don't know many people to sell to. That is one consideration, but are you willing to network? I know one thing Mary Kay reps do is recruit more people for them to sell under you. I can't tell you how many times I have been approached in a Target or by Starbucks bu a Mary Kay rep wanting to get me involved in "the management" side. If you are persistent and aren't afraid of rejection, then go for it. You do need to invest time and effort though.

Hi V.. Good for you! Although many people around you may have failed, doesn't necessarily mean you will too. I do recommend taking a look at your competition out there. I have been working a highly successful business with Arbonne International for over a year now. I absolutely love it and am surrounded by successful people! I have been a consultant for 1 1/2 years and love the company. They put God first, family second and your career whatever you want that career to be third. If you are willing to do the work you can be extremely sucessful and make any kind of money you want to make. It is up to you! I agree completely with the other responses it is up to you. What do you think you can do? Can you shake off a no and say to yourself NEXT? The only other question you need to ask yourself is do you love the product? If you aren't sold on the product yourself you will have a hard time convincing others to love it!

V. - I think you answered it for yourself in your post - you weren't too positive about it, and maybe it's just that you're needing more money. Which really isn't a reason to start a business.

The other moms that have responded are spot-on in advice - you MUST be a salesperson for this! Well, to make money you must be. So if you're not already crazy about Mary Kay, and you're not a salesperson, you would be better off seeking to make extra money in another way.

That said, however, either contact some of the moms here, or go to the organization website and hook yourself up with a director and attend a meeting (they usually hold them weekly I think). Mary Kay is a wonderful company and they are just so incredibly supportive - their meetings are a lot of fun. At the meeting, you can meet some other reps - find out what kind of money they're making, and ask them how they're doing it. Good luck!

I was also looking for a way to earn extra money. I looked at Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Arbonne and Southern Living at HOME. I didn't want to carry any inventory and I didn't want to delivery orders so there went Mary Kay and Arbonne even though I do use those products. I loved Pampered Chef but the shows can be so long with all the food preparation and cooking time. Plus the cleanup afterwards makes the shows longer than what I wanted. On the plus side there was no inventory and delivery. I finally decided on Southern Living at HOME. There's no inventory, no delivery, short shows (90 minutes from setup to leaving), no monthly quotas, immediate paycheck. I've been doing it for a few months and I keep getting more impressed. I'd love to tell you about it and all the awesome opportunities.
