Where to Sell Things?

I have recently picked up quilting as a hobby. I have several baby/toddler size blankets that I want to sell and I anticipate having more in the future if I can find some way to make enough from them to support the hobby. The problem is that I have no idea where to sell them. I have a friend who goes to craft shows but my understanding is that they are kind of seasonal and very unpredictable. I have tried craigslist and did not get any results. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any place that has a good market for these kinds of things?

What can I do next?

I don't know about shows, but have you tried ebay?? I have sold several things there, it is easy and a HUGE market. It is a bit of work (listing, monitoring, then shipping) but you can make extra money easy. Hope you sell those!!! PS have you thought about making larger size quilts???

Why not try having an open house at your residence? Just a thought and if you know anyone else who "sells" a product like you do or other like Mary Kay or candles or whatever they could do it together with you...I have dropped in on open houses like these just by seeing a sign posted on a street corner, especially during garage sale season.

Hi C.,
You might try a shop that offers consignment. Or depending on the time of year and where you live, flea markets are one of my favorite places to shop. Here in Kansas City, where I live, they hold flea markets at a few of the old drive in theatres in the summer. Also a local restaurant/ lounge offers booths for rent. I recently ordered some books from a craft/ book club, and one of them is about how to sew scrap quilts. I plan to make one for each of my children out of special clothes/ blankets, etc. from their childhood. Good Luck to you on selling your quilts.

I would check out www.Etsy.com. I make boutique style hair bows, handmade cards, personalized stationary, etc. I recently joined and really like it so far. I haven't sold too many things yet, but I know it just takes a little while to draw attention to your store and to find the right buyer. This site is great because it's free to have your own store (you will be able to give out your personal website that people can go directly to) and then their fees are pretty small...20 cents for each listing which is up for FOUR months, and then 3% of the final value when you sell something. Good luck!!

You might try placing your products in locally owned boutiques. Try STUFF in Brookside, a place that carries a plethora of gift items. Look for other needle craft (Urban Arts, for instance) that have an allegience to your hobby. Ask those owners for recommendations of other shops who you might contact. There's also shops that specialize in goods made in Kansas City...
