Where to Buy Inexpensive Items for a Non-profit Raffle?

My son's cub scout pack out of Keller is having their annual Blue & Gold banquet in February. We have a children's raffle and silent auction in conjunction with our B&G banquet. I just (in the last week) found out about the children's raffle.

Where would you shop to find things (INEXPENSIVE or where to seek donations) from places for kids stuff -- aside of Toys R Us.

Basically what I was told was that the banquet coordinator would hit a lot of the "after Christmas" sales and buy things at very reduced prices... well, I just found out about that (and I'm the coordinator) so I've missed those sales... so now I have to get creative... looking for places to buy thigns... what types of things you think would do well...

each boy is given a ticket at their place setting for the banquet and then more can be purchased for $1 each. Beside each item is a box. The boys put tickets in the boxes next to the items they want. If they really want "x" item, they could purchase and put all their tickets in that one box. So while their parents are "shopping" at the silent auction... the boys can feel like they're participating too.

I need ideas ladies... I don't want to let these kids down! HELP!

What can I do next?

I would ask managers at Walmart, Target, Game Stop, Blockbuster, Toys R Us, etc if they can donate items for the raffle. Find out where some of the troop leaders and other parents work and approach those places as well. You may be able to get monetary donations that you can use to purchase items with as well as actual donations. If you are not comfortable asking in person, call them up and have all the information to verify your group and ask away. It never hurts to ask. If that doesn't work, I would go to the dollar stores or clearance aisles as suggested in other replies. Oh! Another thing idea is Chuck E. Cheese or Putt-Putt. They may have a package that they could offer as well or you may be able to get tickets or whatever they are using now and have say 200 tickets that could be used towards one of their prizes. Just a thought.

Another great place that I swear by is the 99 cent store off of Rufe Snow and Mid Cities. You will find items that Target and Wal-Mart carry but everything in the store is only $0.99!!!! Also, check with Krogers or Albertsons to see if they can donate something, (they have toys, books, etc). Big Lots is another good place to check for inexpensive items that kids love. I like the movie idea below, maybe also do a pizza basket, in it put a gift card for a pizza place, a deck of cards and a few other games you can find at the 99 cent store. Good luck.

Walmart has some toys on clerance and so does Target.
You could put movie baskets together from the dollar tree with treats and popcorn in them and a five dollar blockbuster Gift cert.
Get a bucket and put in the 97cent hot wheels in them some of them are numbered and people collect them.
Another bucket with water balloons and water guns.
Have fun!
