When Do They Start Teething?

My osn is four months old, and it seems like he might be starting to teeth. He drools alot, and seems to enjoy chewing and biting on things(including the breast). How early do babies usually start teething? And how can I be sure that that's what is happening?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. After reading the responses, I've decided that if he is teething it isn't very much yet. Thank you again.

I don't think there is any set age. My first set of twins started around 5 months and had most of their teeth by 1. My second set of twins didn't get their first teeth until around 11 months.

Congratulations! I know babies whose first teeth came in around that age. My son's first teeth waited until he was almost 12 months. The ped said not to worry unless he still had no teeth at 24 months! Do you have a ped appointment soon? The doc will be able to tell if your son is teething. It certainly sounds like he might be. Sometimes babies run a slight fever when they are teething, as well.

as the other moms said each babe is sooo different when it comes to timing and teeth. i have a friend who has a walking 14 month with still no teeth! i have heard from dentists, the longer the better. my son drooled and knawed for a long time before a tooth arrived. he is 15months and has 8 i think? i don't really pay attention to be honest. i think the moms who have kids who are really bad teethers and in a lot of pain know more about it and how many teeth and when etc. chances are your son is in the beginning phases...i bet you don't see a tooth for another 3 months :)

L.,
Infants develop different patterns around 4-6 months, this includes drooling, sucking on anything they can and realizing they can move things around in their mouth. Teething begins around 4 months and can be as late as 15 months...

Every baby is sooo different! My baby (not so baby anymore - born June 25, 2007) started teething at 4 months, and now has 15 teeth at 15 months old! But everyone is different, so it's a very good possibility that's what it is. Good luck and congrats on your son!

Every baby is different. My son was 8 1/2 months old when he got his first 2 teeth. He is almost a year old and still only has 2 teeth. My niece got her first 2 teeth at 4 months and a friend of mine, her daughter got her first teeth at 3 1/2 months old (she is now almost a year old too and has 9 teeth). Good Luck!

My son is now 10 months old and has eight teeth and just started teething again. He started just around 3 1/2 4 months. It woke him up at night and bothered him all day. I bought those teether biscuits, and would wet a washcloth and freeze it. He would chew on that thing until it thawed. It sounds like your son is teething. But look at his gums if there inflamed, red, or swollen then he's teething. Good luck

hi L., your son just might be teething now. My son started at 2 months and his first tooth broke in at 5 months. My daughter started teething at around 6-7 months and gother first tooth in at 9 months amybe 10..I'd have to check her book.

i used a wet cloth and let them chew on that. its seemed to have worked for them.

congrats on the little one. they grow so fast, take lots of pictures!!
