What to Do When Your Child Is Sick and You Don't Have Insurance for Them?

We have had our children on Texas Childrens but for this year they say that we make to much money to qualify. It deosn't make sense because we don't make alot of money. We can't get insurance for our 3 children because its to expensive through my husbands work and it would take basically all of the money on his checks. What do you do if you don't have the money to go spend $90.00 and up on a doctor visit, and if you take them to the ER well that is even more. I'm very stressed right now because I'm on such a tight budget and it really hurts when one of the kids gets sick. Does anyone know of any clinics that are cheaper or any advice on what I should do. I just called her Pediatrician and its $90.00 only if they don't have to do anything extra. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Thank you
K.

Call some different walk-in clinics. I think the one in Tomball charges $50 depending on what you need. Most will do basic physicals for school too and minor emergency things like stitches for a lot less than the ER. I think a new clinic just opened on SH 249 @ Spring Cypress.

Take your kids to the ER and have them checked out or try to apply for the Chips insurance,or you can always get the number and find out what you need to do to apply.Don't let your kids be sick even though you don't have any insurance to take to a doctor's office.

I used to have the same problem. My CHIP was cancelled because we were over the income limit by a couple of dollars. My husband's insurance at work was really expensive. When my daughter would get sick I would take her to the redi clinic inside HEB. I took her to the one in the Woodlands but there are several. The nurse was wonderful and gave me the prescription for my daughter's ear infection. It was cheaper than any other clinics I called. Check out their website
