What Kind of relIgious Activities Are at LDS Winter Scout Camp?

the usual, campfire songs, prayers before meals and at other times, probably a Book of Mormon related activity or two.

it's been decades since i've been to one, and i don't remember the religiosity being overwhelming, but then, i was a sporadic LDS kid.

and every camp will be different. the best way to know how it will be run is to call the director.

EVERY camp varies between the troops. You need to contact the troop you are interested in registering for and ask them what they will be doing.

When my boys were in Boy Scouts, even though a church sponsored their troop? They didn't do much religious activities, except for badges and what they did on their own.

Every program is different so you really need to call or email the director and ASK.
I'm surprised they don't have the information on the website or a flyer or something (?)

Our boys go to the regular scout camp so it's pretty much with other scouts that are non-LDS.

I do think your scout leader should be able to give you detailed accounts though. Do they have a FB page? You could look up photo albums and stuff and see if there are any from previous scouting campouts.

IF they were to do anything "religious" at scout camp I'd figure it to be writing in a journal about life things...maybe they'd give them a topic and then the kiddo would write whatever, they'll probably be expected to be reverent during morning and evening, and mealtime, prayers, and perhaps but probably not required, they'd have some time for scripture study. If you're not religious then you could discuss this with the scout leader and make a decision to not allow them to participate in the scripture part or you could ask them if the church library has any scriptures the boys can take with them.

I truly don't know what they'd be required to do that isn't in line with your choices. The church isn't dogmatic about everyone participating in things if the parents just want them to come along.

My girl went to girl's camp one time, one time only. There were bugs at camp. It was hot at camp. They had weird food like salads and stuff at camp. She had scriptures with her and they actually thought she'd take them out and read them! Egad!

She wasn't forced to do anything she didn't want to. She had a good time but camping is NOT her forte. She's an indoor girl (like me) and an Introvert recluse (like my husband).
