I started taking Welbutrin about a week ago. I know it's super early but I noticed I've been acting manic. Freaking out on my husband and child. Yesterday I had some weird melt down..shaking out of control..hyperventilating..crying. This may sound crazy but I think I want to keep taking it and see what happens bc today I feel like a normal person. I even put makeup on and straightened my hair! (Doesn't sound exciting but it's been awhile!) Oh the Q. is did anyone else have crazy side effects at first too..did it get better..How long before you quit smoking on the drug??

I've been on and off them a few times (pregancy and couldn't afford it), and every time is the same. It takes about a week to get used to it going on and off. I felt periods of nausious, dizzy, shaky and then one morning would just wake up feeling good.
It's not a miracle drug, but if you're on the right one, you should feel more like a regular person!

I stopped smoking with Wellbutrin. I've since started back (because I'm an idiot) but I started taking Wellbutrin again just for depression. But here's the important thing about taking Wellbutrin to quit smoking. You have to set your quit date to 2 weeks after you start taking it or it won't work. The first 2 weeks you are supposed to taper off until you have your last cig on the 14th day. If you don't quit then, it won't work. I've tried it both ways and I really believe that's true. Good luck!

I took it when I was a teenager for depression. From what I remember, cigarettes started smelling and tasting horrible a few weeks in. I quit smoking for about 5 weeks thanks to the horrible willpower of a 16 year old. I remember losing a whole bunch of weight (not in a good way) because I had extreme appetite loss. I also got tremors (hand and leg). On top of the decreased appetite, i found that i got nausea from it too. Everyone is different. If you think that you are having negative side effects its best to talk to your doctor about it.

If you are wanting to quit smoking and are serious, I finally quit by using one of those electronic cigarettes. It's water vapor with nicotine in it and there are different nicotine levels you can order. You can order different flavors (Generic Tobacco,Marlboro, Camel, Cotton candy, etc) It doesn't taste exactly like a cigarette but I found it worked for me. I tried everything and nothing else worked as well as that did. My father also quit after smoking for 30 some odd years using the e-cig.

Did you look up the side effects from this!!! I have a friend who ended up in the hospital thinking she had heart trouble, after a week of testing they ruled it was from the Welbutrin. Just be very careful......... I would call your Dr. who prescribed this to you.
All the best.

I was on Zyban for the same thing and went psycho about a month into it!!! I never stopped smoking on it either and I stopped taking the pill after a month. I couldn't take the feeling of my insides getting all twisted and tension and then me flying off the handle over the silliest things. My husband was deployed at the time so it wasn't far that my daughter (5 at the time) was the center of my lashings.

A few months ago my Dr put me on Welburtin for light depression. After a week I had dry mouth so bad I'd wake up in the middle of the night with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth!! And I could feel the tension building up again too. I talked to his nurse who said to keep taking it because my body would adjust to the stuff and the side effects would go away!! I stopped taking it cause I wasn't going to go through the fits of rage like I did with the zyban.

What finially worked for my hubby and I to stop smoking was Chantix. We didn't even finish the first 6 week program and it will be 3yrs come Oct that we stopped. We were shocked when it got pulled off the shelves for a while do to people's mental health. We never had any issues like that but I do know that some Drs here were prescribing it along with Zyban, Welbutrin, nicotine gum or the patch and you aren't supposed to do that. Just take the pill and nothing else. A friend of ours is using it now and two weeks in he said dog poo smelled better than cigarettes!!

IMO i'd stop taking the Welbutrin. To me, no anti depression drug should cause a person to feel like I did and like you do now!!! This is the side effect of the drug and NOT from stopping smoking!!!

Good luck with stopping smoking!

Had a friend who took it and lost tons of weight as well as quit smoking after 20 years. I tried it for depression when my son was diagnosed with cancer. It made me a psychotic freak who WANTED a cig.

well I had a friend that quit smoking, she wasn't on Welbutrin, just quit cold turkey. But that alone, I guess because of "withdrawls", made her sort of nuts-o and emotional and "manic" for a few days after quitting. After that, she normalized. Apparently, just quitting smoking alone, makes one have real emotional mood swings. Which is what she got. Until I guess, she overcame that hump. I guess, its like withdrawing from any type of "drug."

good luck,
Susan
