When I got pregnant with my first child I gained 100 lbs. After he was born (almost 13 yrs ago) I have never gained or lost more than a few lbs, even with my other pregnacies. I watch what I eat and I am active. I am diabetic and take pills and watch what I eat to control it. The only thing I dont do is drink alot of water because water makes me sick at my stomach. I went to the doctor and they said I have a dismetabolic disorder that makes it hard for me to lose weight. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There is nothing to correct the metablic problem. The doctor said lapband or gastric bypass would be my only option. But I cant afford that and insurance wont pay for it. We have tried medications and supplements, no change. I tried the personal trainer I did not loses any weight. I have tried low carb diets the dietician put me on but not low-glycemic foods.

What can I do next?

Weight watchers. I gained 44 with my 1st and 38 with my 2nd and lost 44 after my 1st and aboug 50 after my 2nd. It really works and you can do it on line now but what worked for me was having to go weigh every week. I didn't want to see that scale go any way but down! I was a size 10 before I got pregnant with my first and I am now a 6-8 depending on the brand.

Good luck I know how hard it is!

You may want to go to another bariatric treatment doctor...my mother has been referred to others and one said that insurance will pay if they document at least 6 months of trying to lose weight the old-fashioned way of dieting and exercise...that would mean putting her on a diet recommended by that doctor...and then her exercising, too. Once that 6 months was completed and the doctor had documentation of that effort..and still no weight loss happened...then insurance would cover the cost of the lapband procedure (because weight loss would prevent future more serious conditions: heart disease, high blood pressure). My mom would have to only pay the deductible for surgery.
You should look into trying other doctors that can help you get your insurance to pay for it. [they know the procedures and protocols better than we do!] You must research that option more. If not, some of these doctors provide payment options that are affordable loans - definitely worth it for the freedom and joy you'll feel at a healthy weight.

The other thing that I would recommend, but I'm not sure if you want to hear it: I've lost 50 lbs counting points and going to Weight Watcher meetings and working out at a gym 5-6 days a week. It takes dedication and determination, but once you've made up your mind that enough is enough and "i will not gain one more pound"; "today is the day that i turn this around," ....you can do it! Feel free to PM me if you want some of my tips/advice on this journey i'm on. I have some "tricks" that have helped me stay focused and staying committed for so long (since July 2006). I have about 30 more lbs to lose, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now....and nothing...absolutely nothing tastes as good as thin feels! I love my new, evolving body now...and it's getting better.

I did have blood work done and my doc discovered i had an underactive thyroid so she put me on hormone medicine to bring my thyroid levels up. I'm sure that has helped with my weight loss -- correcting that issue. They say that an underactive thyroid can contribute to weight gain. Have you had your thyroid levels checked?

T.,
I would get a second oppinion. If a lapband would make you lose weight, why wouldn't eating fewer calories? They both do the same thing, so I don't believe your doctor. There must be something else.

Tiena Health Group in Las Colinas has doctors, dieticians, and weight loss programs. If you're interested and your insurance is accepted there, you might try them to confirm the diagnosis or provide another one. Dr. Ralph Cox is my doctor and he's great, so is Dr. Terry Fehrey.

I also go to Tiena Health in Las Colinas (one of the other ladies mentioned it in this thread). The doctors and nutritionists there are awesome! They recommended that I track my calories at calorieking.com, which helped me shed 10 lbs. Once I knew exactly how many calories I was consuming v. how many calories I was burning, it was easy to manage (kinda like a budget). I know it's a real drag to count calories, but this program makes it easy because you can drag and drop from the list of food choices (including restaurants) and from the list of exercises. I think the program is like $40 and it tracks your progress, gets frequent updates and is very easy to use.

There's a "Lose it for Life" seminar here in Dallas the weekend of May 4,5, & 6. I'm trying to encourage my mom and sisters to come up from Houston for it. I don't know the exact site but you can google it to get more info.

Take care of yourself so you can take care of your family.

Arbonne has a botanically based weight loss system that is created to boost your metabolism and burn more calories. It won't make you loose the weight super-fast, especially if you've had problems in the past, but it is a safe alternative to surgery, or other supplements that are on the market.

Low metabolism is often due to the toxins in our body... so doing a cleanse and detox program might be really effective for you. Let me know if you want more information!

Good luck!

Hi T.,

I don't know if what I did will work for you, but I was able to lose 25 pounds without dieting and my friend in NJ (who is diabetic) has lost 30 pounds w/o dieting plus her diabetes is now under control.

Message me if you want to chat.

Find out what you need to do to correct the metabolic problem. There are supplements (and probably medications too) that can help, and daily exercise (the best way to boost your metabolism) should probably become part of your lifestyle. As far as diet, you might look into low-glycemic foods. If you have the cash, a personal trainer can help get you on an appropriate exercise program. Even just 4 to 8 weeks of sessions will get you started. A dietician or nutritionist can help with the eating plan.
