HI Mamasource Moms nearish to Lake M -

I would love to connect with some moms whose kids are going to school in Glenview or
Wilmette, elementary school (esp. Ramona) or already to middle school or high school. We need to visit Glenbrook South and New Trier. Our daughter is creative and an overall average learner in Math, etc. We would be leaving Evanston. We're looking for an area and school with lots of middle class families and some Jewish families. It's tough because we've already been here a while and she's in fourth grade. Any advice about changing schools at that age, mid-year v. new school year transfers, etc. much appreciated! And I have a son who will enter K in a few years!

I am also open to hearing about other areas close to the Lake and not too far from friends in Evanston.

FYI: In terms of education, I am looking for schools that still integrate art in the classroom and have strong art, music, and drama programs and aren't totally driven by NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND (if that's even possible).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

Barbara

Skokie sounds like the perfect solution for you. Awesome schools (Fairview South is the best) and a heavy Jewish population. Wonderfully integrated with all backgounds and nationalities, which is one of the reasons I've lived here for 10 years and am raising my kids here. Niles West is a great school and has the #1 Fine Arts H.S. Program in the country.

Not many "middle class" families in Wilmette and Glenbrook South district.

I worked at both GBN (I know it isn't GBS but similar) and New Trier. I personally didn't like NT. I didn't feel like it was a typical high school at all. The high school I went to had sprint week, pep rallys, and other spirit activities. While at New Trier I didn't see one of those types of things but at GBN they had spirit activities all the time. I know you don't just go to school to have fun but my best memories were of school spirit activities. School is not just about academics. I know I am coming from a different point of view but I felt the faculty were nice at district 225 and the students seemed nicer (I had peer tutors for my special education students). I also worked in district 28 and can rave about that district as well!! Good luck with your decision. And again no offense to anyone but I just felt more welcomed and comfortable with district 225.

PS Go see the schools as well. That will help you gain some perspective as well.

Both schools are good choices, however I am biased because I work at New Trier. After close dealings with students, parents, the community, and administration, I have nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about New Trier. You will definitely find lots of Jewish families, but not so much in the 'middle class' range. Send me a PM if you'd like to talk more - I LOVE it here!
