Wanting to Stay Home

OK so I wanted to ask all you Mom's how to work at home. I am currently on maternity leave from my job. My baby is now three weeks old and the question is coming up. I have 6 children now and can't afford afterschool childcare and don't trust putting my newborn in childcare. My fiance doesn't want me to go back to work but wants the income (which isn't much anyway). I really want to go back to work, but it is just not possible in many ways. What is out there that is homebased?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I wanted to say thank you for all the input from you Mothers. It seems a lot of you are in sales and have to have tupperware parties so many nights a week. I am currently on maternity leave from my retail job. I actually love my job and miss it. The only way I could go back right now would be in the evening a few nights a week while Dad watches 6 kids. I would rather go back there than try to start something new like selling products. Thank you for all your help again, and good luck to you all with your product selling.

Wow, you definitely have your hands full and I completely understand why you're wanting to stay home. We wonder if its worth both of us working outside the home and we only have 3 kids.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you about a Direct Sales company that I recently joined name Butterfly Boutique. Its a company that is only 2 years old so it is very ground floor. They sell a variety of items from handbags to jewelry, from scarves to a spa/home fragrance line. And the awesome thing is... you can start with zero cash investment (no catch)! Send me a message if you'd like more information.

I also do handwriting for a Christian-based company, but its located in KS, so I don't think that would help you out.

Good luck in whatever decision you make! I hope you can find something will work for you and your family.

Sounds like a very full but rewarding home. I am a mother of 4 ages 13, 9, 5 & 2 and have learned that actually working for myself is much easier than I ever dreamed it would be. My wonderful husband works during the day and I venture out a couple evenings per week doing in home jewelry parties with lia sophia jewelry. This gives me the opportunity for adult time and the wonderful opportunity to spend time with my children during the day. I have been with lia sophia for almost 2 years but the company has been around for more than 30 years, so don't worry, we aren't going anywhere. I make my own hours so I work when it works for my family. When you work just 2 night per week you have the chance to earn $1,000 or more per month. Great pay, great fun, GREAT JOB and Great Jewelry.

Hey S.,

Congrats on the new baby! I had my 6th one almost a year ago. It is fun and challenging all at the same time. I've seen you've gotten a lot of responses, so I may as well add one more. I find I'm a better mom working at home and getting out about 2 nights a week with WILDTREE.

We are an All Natural food company and very new to the area. The company is about 12 years old but has been concentrated on the east coast for a long time. I'd love to give you more information if you are at all interested. For now you can go to my website and check it out for yourself. I am really enjoying myself right now and bringing in money too. As a matter of fact my bonus check just paid off the ortho!!

My website is http://sbarnum.mywildtree.com

Good luck with the balancing act we call motherhood.

I have recently joined a great company, YTB travel. I have my own travel website and people book their travel and I make a commission off those bookings. Sure there is more to it but it's an excellent opportunity to save money on travel, write off travel on your taxes, etc. If you would like more information, please feel free to email me and you can check out my website at www.plan4paradise.biz. Wow, have you got your hands full! Congrats on the new baby! They are such a blessing, aren't they?

I do work from home very part-time and would be glad to give you more info if you are interested. I work for AmeriPlan, a health benefits company, marketing our discount benefits plans. It's a great business because we don't sell a product but rather a service....a MUCH NEEDED service in today's economy. Our plans are an alternative to insurance and waaay cheaper than health insurance premiums. We don't do any home shows, obviously, and we don't do any cold calling, either. You simply speak to those who are in need of benefits and see if it's right for them. We get paid daily and receive benefits for our household as well.

If you would like to hear more or ask any questions, feel free to call me at ###-###-#### or email me at: ____@____.com, as a side note, the BBB is a nice resource but it's not always the best when searching for legitimate businesses. ANYONE can be a member of the BBB as long as they pay their dues to the BBB. Just be careful....the BBB can deceive you.

Good luck and many blessings to your family!!

Hi S.! I'm a SAHM with two kiddos. I actually homeschool, give piano lessons, work with a fairly new home-based business, and have a very busy life. I just wanted to give you some information about the home-based business that I have been working for since October '07. It is called Uppercase Living. It was established two years ago. We sell vinyl lettering and embellishments for walls in homes and businesses, interior, exterior, cars, home decor, gifts, etc. The lettering can be placed on just about any surface and it can be removed without ruining paint if someone wants something different. I have absolutely loved selling UL! I do open houses (parties) for people, and really, the product just sells itself! It is very "in" right now, and it has been very successful for me -- plus it has just been so much fun to do!!!

You can check out the website: www.uppercaseliving.com. Go to Customer Corner and register (info not shared with anyone except me). Use my demonstrator #819313 and registration token: ddolloff. There you can view the catalog, create your own custom expressions, find out about the company, and other great stuff! You can even sign up to sell it right there! It is a very minimal start-up cost, and no huge inventory is necessary.

Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to help you!(____@____.com) Most of all, enjoy whatever you decide to do! And let Jesus be glorified in it -- it'll be awesome. D.

S.,
As you can tell from the responses, there are A LOT of home-based businesses out there that are looking for people to join. You could do an internet search and come up with pages and pages of results! You can narrow it down by the type of business, or by the amount of time you have or the money it costs to be involved (joining fee plus upkeep), or by the type of product/service you want to be involved with, etc., etc.
You may want to write down what it is you are realistically looking for in a home business (what's most important to you?) and go from there.
Could your current job allow you to work from home?
If your job is mostly text- or information-based, and the company you are working for is willing to try it, you might be able to "telecommute," which is basically working for that company from home using e-mail and/or internet. This works well for jobs like data entry, typing, telemarketing, scheduling, and bookkeeping, and of course, any internet-related task (webmaster, web page design, tech support through e-mail, etc.).
What are your talents?
If you have skills that are in demand, you could start your own business making products or providing a service using those skills. Calligraphy, crafts, baking, cake decorating, writing short stories or articles for magazines, typing/proofreading, tutoring, house cleaning, child care... the list goes on and on. The main drawback is that this often takes some careful research (is this enough in demand that I can make money at it?) and marketing skills (how can I get more customers/clients?).
I've found that any home business will require quite a bit of time, effort, and money initially--regardless of the promises made by the company website! ;-)
I like selling AVON, myself, but I'm not going to tell you that you can make hundreds of dollars right off the bat working only a couple of hours a week. That's not realistic for any business. I do spend some time each week, entering order numbers, passing out brochures, answering customer questions, delivering products, etc.
But I also set my own hours and make a little money in the process. And my kids happen to like helping me with my business! :-)
Really, though, you can make money at nearly any business if you have the determination. Find something that you would enjoy--you won't do well if you hate your business!--and that also fits YOUR goals.
Best of luck!
--A.

I've been working with FourPointMoms and have been VERY happy. We do not sell, stock, deliver products, or telemarket and I don't have to chase after fmaily and friends. FourPointMoms' partner company has been in business for over 22 years and is registered with the BBB and is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Start up cost is minimal.

There is a lot out there, so do your research. (When in doubt, go to the BBB). Mamasource is a great place for you to start your search--Mamasource WAHMs tend to work for extremely reputable companies because Mamasource moms are smart!!! You should be able to find an opportunity here that is right for you.

You can reach me through Mamasource for more information or you can go to my website at: http://www.healthandwealth.fourpointmoms.com/

Good luck, S.!!!

Hi S.!
I just started a home based business. It's unlike any others that I have looked into. I tried Mary Kay and really struggled going out and having the parties, as I had two young children.
The business that I have just started is team based and we help each other out. It can be all done on the internet. You don't have to have any inventory, sell, have parties, etc. I can tell you more if you are interested. At the moment I am working part-time and have just started to spend time in doing this in my spare time (which is 1 to two hours a day).
Let me know if you would like more info. Write me at ____@____.com and let me know when is the best time to talk.
Also, check out my website. I hope this answers some of your questions!

HI S., This one is a slow starter, but it has zero start up costs and that's in it's favor. It is not a get rich quick scheme, but with a few years it is a get rich smart business. I have been saving money using it for a few weeks now.
Here's the web address www.mypowermall.com/biz/home/114024, if you have any questions my email is ____@____.com, I work 50 plus hours a week so I only check my email about twice a week. Oh and put mpm in the subject line, I get a lot of junk mail and wouldn't want to miss you.

Hi S.,

Have you heard of Gypsybug.com? They are a completely family safe site for people to advertise and extras. Gypsybug is looking for people to be Reps for them. It would be home based and you would make good money for what you would be doing.

There are different levels of effort that you can put out. You can just put their sticker in the back window of you car and sign 3 people up and get paid at least $40 a month from then on, and get $.09 back on the mile come tax time from driving your car.

You can get more invloved and make more money from there.

More info and/or to sign up:
http://www.gypsybug.com/sales.php?rep=2568

You can also call Alexx Coley - MO Rep.
###-###-#### and mention Ref # 2568

He will be able to tell you all the information you will want and need.

Enjoy staying at home and raising your children!! Make some $$ while your at it :o)
