Vinyl Diaper Covers?

With my first child, we used cloth diapers (the prefold Gerber diapers you can buy at BBrUs or Target) and the vinyl diaper covers that you can buy in packs of 3 at Babies R Us. The last time I purchased the vinyl covers at Babies R Us...Gerber has apparently changed the type of vinyl/plastic they use. The covers are MUCH thinner and tear more easily. Does anyone have suggestions on where else to buy similar covers that would be better quality? BBrUs has been the only place that I had seen the simple vinyl covers. I hate to keep having to buy these covers because they tear. (I am not interested in upgrading to the expensive cloth diapers or the vinyl covers that you insert the disposable liner into.)

What can I do next?

I've bought most of my covers at Cotton Babies (270 and Tesson Ferry). They have great customer service and will help you pick out the most appropriate cover. Also, the often have used covers. (I have used almost all used covers, but buying used allows you to buy for less and try them out before you commit to one kind). Cotton Babies is also online at www.cottonbabies.com, but well worth a trip to the store!

These are the closest thing I have found to those (I have cloth diapered two children and about to start the third) http://www.thanksmama.com/Bummis_Whisper_Pants_p/bms-002.htm (they're a bit more expensive than the gerber ones, but they last forever and feel better, as they're nylon not vinyl. I personally use (mostly) prefolds and covers, thought I much prefer the good indian cotton prefolds (like these http://www.thanksmama.com/Bleached_Indian_Cotton_Prefolds...) and wrap covers (like these http://www.thanksmama.com/Bummis_Super_Whisper_Wrap_p/bms.... I started with the gerber prefolds (and some flatfold), and you would not believe the difference in absorbancy. I have a friend, though, like you who actually made her prefolds and then used the gerber covers and didn't like when they changed the thickness. She has switched to the bummi whisper pant and is very pleased. She says that they are really much cheaper too, because she was going through a lot from them tearing. I've had a couple that look like new and were bought used before my first child! Hope you find what you are looking for. I always try to find a website that I can get free shipping on and buy a few at a time so I can try things to see if I like them without investing much.

I have used the Gerber prefolds & the Gerber vinyl covers. I had noticed that they were tearing more when I bought my older daughter larger sizes (she's potty-trained now yay!). Earlier this year we switched to mainly Thirsties covers with Gerber prefolds. They were more expensive - except when you figure that the Gerbers weren't lasting! Also, when I was looking at covers, there are Dappi nylon (or vinyl) covers that are the same style as the Gerbers, only a little more expensive (I think they were $5 for a 2 pack?).
I got my Thirsties at www.diaperjunction.com, but several other online places sell them. If you are in St. Louis, Cotton Babies has a retail store as well where you could look at products.

Try Bummis Whisper Wraps. They aren't too expensive. Try to stay away from vinyl. It contains lead.

Try doing a search for Dappi covers. They come in vinyl and nylon. The nylon is the MUCH higher quality, for about the same price.

I bought all of my supplies from www.nopins4baby.com - she does sell the all in ones, but also the vinyl covers alone. Heather is great to answer all of your questions (I sent her tons before my first order), and her return/exchange policy is very good (as long as the item hasn't been used).

Hope this helps!

I use bummis, and they are about $9 a cover, plus shipping. When I was shopping around, I saw prowraps were cheaper, but the reviews said the color would fade/run. If you don't care about that, then maybe they would work? Also, I just glanced at some kushies that walmart sells online. You might check those. Lastly, you could probably get used bummis, prowraps, etc. on ebay or craigslist for cheap. They work for several kids, so used isn't bad. Good luck!
