Very Early Miscarriage. Will I Ovulate This Month?

Hi Mamas! I was five days late for my period last month and just knew I was pregnant. (We've been trying for a few months.) The day I decided I was going to test, I started bleeding. I probably should have just let it go, but I took a pregnancy test anyway and got a faint positive. And then the bleeding increased throughout that day. I continued to spot for 8 days with an increase in the bleeding at the end of the whole thing. I took pregnancy tests throughout and got 6 positives. (I know, it's silly. But I was worried!) As it turns out, after that last bout of fairly heavy bleeding toward the end, I tested again and got three negatives on three different tests. I'm guessing I had a miscarriage. I would have only been about 3 or 4 weeks along and I've heard this is fairly common. Had I not gotten a wild hair to test, I never would have known. Just would have thought I had a late period.

Anyway, I guess my question after giving you all that background is, should I expect to ovulate this month? Also, is there any reason to think I should need a DNC? Things seem to be back to normal now. I don't feel pregnant anymore, so I don't think I got false negatives, but I know stranger things have happened before. I'm just not seeing the same symptoms of ovulation that I usually do this time of the month. Have you been through this before?

Thanks for your help and advice!
H.

According to some really cool studies (ginourmous scandanavian ones, with hundreds of thousands of women in them), most women who are sexually active are "pregnant" 4-6 times a year. Their periods just end up being a few days late.

TYPICALLY, yes. You'll ovulate on schedule, and have your period on schedule the next month. Possibly a few days to a week later than normal, but usually right on time.

You do not ovulate while pregnant. That just doesn't happen. Read the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. Wonderful book that every woman should read whether trying to avoid pregnancy or get pregnant.
Odds are you will ovulate but most likely it wont be on your normal schedule. It could be a few days later than what you are use to or even a week later depending on how your body deals with all the hormones.

You should ovulate this month, but you might be a little later than your normal time. Your body's hormones are still regulating and getting back to normal. I had a very early miscarriage like you, and I only knew it was happening because I had done IVF so they were measuring my beta hcg every other day for a week. I was getting positives on tests, but the hcg levels were not rising appropriately, signaling a miscarriage was coming. I was also about 4-5 weeks along. After my period, which felt like an extension of the bleeding I had had while pregnant, I didn't feel pregnant, but it took a whole other cycle just to feel back on my normal schedule. You might want to wait out this month, not because you physically would be in danger if you conceived, but just to get your monthly rhythms back to normal. You shouldn't need a D&C with it being that early, but if you have pain or something just doesn't feel right, call your OB, because the only way to accurately assess if there is any hcg left in your system is through a blood test.

I had one miscarriage where my period was not even late. I had a positive test and two days latter bleed. Went to the doctor and confirmed with blood tests. They said nothing to me about D&C. not sure about ovulation for next time though.

We ovulate every month, even while prego.... there is just no chance of that egg doing anything when there is already a baby growing in the belly. So yes you will ovulate this month.
Wether or no your body is ready to be prego again is up to your body.
I would have called my OB just to be on the safe side- but that is me.
From what I hear healthy women who have no issues getting prego can get prego right away after a miscarriage, so you should perhaps see a positive test again pretty soon.
I got prego with #2 soon after the birth of #1. Never had one period... proof that ovulation happens every month :)
Lots of luck

You could have been pregnant or your hcg levels were simply elevated. It can happen and you would never know it except for the tests. You'll likely ovulate, although maybe later than usual. I don't see the urgency in trying to conceive this month if you did have a really early miscarriage when you could take a month to make sure that your cycle stays/gets back on track.

You probably won't need a D&C since your body took care of things naturally and it was so early. As long as you're feeling as you typically do right now and aren't feeling feverish then I wouldn't worry about a D&C.
