Have you seen the trailer? Did it bother you? Does it seem dark, unlike the comedy it is suppose to be?

What do you think of Santa having tatoos and taking on evil with a giant sword?

We were unpleasantly surprised to see the trailer at the beginning of the Madagascar 3 movie. To us (5 adults & 4 children) it seemed quite scary. We got lots of questions from the 4, 5, and 7 y.o. regarding Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy afterwards. Not something we were really prepared for.....

It is a Disney Pixar movie, but I couldn't find a rating for it. We are hoping it is truly a comedy and the trailers for it get a lot better, but so far I can't say I'm too happy with what we saw.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Jackie for the correction. I think I need to watch the trailer again at home. On the big screen, it looked scary.

Have you read the books that William Joyce wrote? The Man in the Moon was the first book. This picture book was more child like but it was aimed at the 7 and above crowd (because of some of the concepts). That was then followed by St. Nicholas of the North and the battle of the Nightmare King followed by E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warriors Eggs at the Earth's core. These books are sort of a lord of the rings type story (in that there is a group that work together to fight evil in this case the nightmare king). I would say it is aimed at 7 and above. My son who is almost 8 can't wait to see the movie since we have read all the books so far. The stories are lovely. The next book Toothiana, Queen of the Tooth Fairy Armies come out in October. I should also mention that the illustrations in the book are also by William Joyce who was an animator for Disney/Pixar but now runs his own animation studio in Louisiana called Moonbot Studios. This is a studio to watch out for in the future for future childrens movies. They had just won an academy award for the best animated short "The Fantastic Flying books of Morris Lessmore".

I just watched the trailer on IMDb and I didnt think it looked that scary, but I teach my daughter that the world is not all rainbows and unicorns.

Also it is NOT a Disney film it is Dreamworks which is Universal.

I am looking forward to this movie. I think it's a very cool concept. Santa, the easter bunny, tooth fairy and the sand man not just being these fluffy cutesie characters , but characters that have more depth to them.
But my kids are 10 and 7. They want to see it too.

I think it looks pretty cool. I'm not sure my 5 and 6 yr old are not ready for it. I'll probably watch it myself 1st.
