Twitching While Falling Asleep

I remember seeing someone ask about this before but can't really remember the responses, seems like there wasn't much reply.

I find when I am falling asleep I will jerk myself awake. Hubs says I have even started making comments like "oh no!"

I can't really remember it, unless he talks to me right after I do it. and he tells me I don't talk or twitch after I have really fallen asleep. because I was worried it was sleep apnea at first.

anyone else do this, or know why it happens??

tx

What can I do next?

I have done that since I was little, it has a name, I can't remember the name. I start dreaming, I remember the dream, then I trip or fall and wake up pretty much bracing myself or twitching.

I feel awful when I do it because it always wakes my husband up. At least it only happens when I first fall asleep and not later in the night.

I do that sometimes. Not often. I have "oof"ed before, but never actually commented by saying anything like "oh no".

I normally drift right off to sleep a few moments afterwards. It only happens once or twice a year (maybe?). Not often enough to keep track anyway.

My husband has commented before, but that was when I seemed to have an unusual string of them (maybe 3 or 4 times in a couple of months).
Maybe it's stress related. Or more likely something physical with needing to stretch after exercise or something.

Everyone has what is called sleep myoclonus, it is just exaggerated in some people. If you are really concerned I would suggest having a sleep study done. This study also detects oxygen levels, heart rate, pulse and blood pressure during sleep. They will also let you know at what stages you are falling in and out of sleep. The test is very informative and will give you some really good feedback! Good luck!

*** forgot to mention sleep study does detect apnea as well.

I believe it is a very common phase of the sleep cycle. It might be a passing between the phases of sleep.

My oldest daughter was a high maintenance child who I could not lie down before she reached the deep sleep phase. I could tell when this occurred because she would do that 'twitch'.

I do it sometimes, where I just twitch/jerk myself awake. It doesn't happen very often though, and when it does it is in clusters. Like, I can go for several months without doing it at all, then re dimly start doing it for a week or so, then it goes away.

Super annoying! Lol.

I usually do it when I am upset. So when my dad passed I think I did it every night.

Now that my niece was sick I would catch myself do it when I was in a relax state. I have caught myself doing it pretty much every night while sleeping.

Someone said it was from holding things together and then twitching when you are relaxed. It sounds good to me. I usually hold my composure when I am upset, so it only makes sense to release the tension at some point.
