Just remember that whatever you purchase, kids are gross. They will inevitably wet the bed, puke in it, and do who knows what else... Plus, they generally don't weigh enough to need all the extra support of a fancy mattress until they are much older and have generally outgrown the peeing/puking/pooping in the bed thing. We just purchased a fairly inexpensive set (about $150) for my daughter, knowing that we will replace it when she gets old enough to need the support.

i agree with the other mom......kids are usually pretty light and don't need an expensive mattress.....they twin mattresses are usually pretty cheap as long as they aren't name brand. i bought a really inexpensive mattress and also bought a foamy mattress topper to help make it feel more comfortable. then i can always throw the topper away and buy a new one if it gets messed up. good luck

Melinda,

There is a store in Naperville called Lil Deb'n Heir, that has mattresses that are waterproof even in twin and full size. We're planning on getting one of these in a couple of weeks.

Hi Melinda!

When we purchased our son's mattress the salesman told us that because kids don't weigh much they don't need a really soft mattress, especially a pillow top. The mattresses don't form to their bodies, they just rest on top. He suggested the least expensive one and a bunkie board instead of a box spring. Now the bed isn't too high either. We did put a mattress cover on it though. We got it at Target. You can get water proof or one for allergens. Good luck!
