Trying to Track down Article on Writing "Life Letters" to Your Children

Within the last 2 years I read a great article on writing thoughtful letters for your children to be given later in life on topics such as "the first time you have a broken heart", "when you lose a friend", "choosing a life partner", "the unique things about you", etc. We've moved since I read the article and can't remember the magazine it was in - one of the parenting mags I receive. I'd love to get started on writing letters to my girls - does anyone out there remember that article?

Thanks!

That is a great idea, if you don't mind I would like to do the same thing. I researched the topic and found this site http://www.joyremembered.com/family-letters/66/, the article you have mentioned is probably an archived edition and can be found at http://www.parenting.com/. I hope these help. I would like to find the back issue you got this from, it sounds very interesting and fun for the whole family.

There is a company called "Once upon a family" that makes these cute boxes you fill with letters to your kids. You write one each year on their birthday and also put a photo on the front of the little "book". I have loved writing one on each of our boys birthdays.

HI L.:
I've heard about that, but couldn't recall what magazine it was in. You don't need that article L.. Writing to your girls in your own words, using your own wisdom, will be beautiful, and much more appreciated.Writing as though they were there with you, telling them of your own experiences, thoughts and whats in your heart, this ultimately is what they'll treasure. I wish you and your daughters the best.J. M

Never heard of those letters BUT
If you check out my website we can get you a book for the kids. It can be either about the kids or about the family or about the things that the letters would cover in book form.

Hi L.,

My husband and I keep a journal that we update sometimes daily, other times once a week and sometimes we don't get to it but once a month. We plan on giving it our daughter when she turns 18. We write about her accomplishments and our experiences with her (good and bad). It will be an incredible gift for her one day! Writing to your children is such an amazing idea - it is something they can keep forever!
Good luck,
F.
