Torn Tendon?

Has anyone ever had a torn muscle? I get a major burning sensation deep within my upper muscle on my right arm if I even lift a gallon of milk or a file, anything. My husband says if it were a torn muscle it would be dull and throbbing but this is sharp and burns. I am sure it is from carrying my daughter so i've switched sides. Just wondering if it's something that that will heal on its own or if I needto see a dr.

What can I do next?

It sounds like you have tendonitis. Most docs prescribe Advil, heat and rest. Good luck getting rest, but the other two do help.

My name is Jenn, and I'm a CMT. The burning sensation could very well be tendonitis, or a torn tendon/muscle. But it's very hard to tell without seeing your arm in person. It'd be best to have your doctor check it out. Depending on the severity of it, they MAY be able to figure out what's going on without an MRI, however it's difficult to tell with soft-tissue injuries. The questions he/she will probably ask are: what activities have you been doing with your arm lately? When did the pain start occuring? Is it worse when you hold it or move it in certain ways? Does the pain lessen when you don't use it? The doctor will have to do some range of motion tests on your arm then... Probably have you move it in certain directions and possibly put some resistance on it. Only then can you tell what is really going on. I hope this helps! There's really too many possible diagones out there that could possibly fit your symptoms. Good luck!

Hi A., After reading you post, I was thinking about your shoulder. I am a Massage Therapist, with many years experence. I belive what you have is trigger points built up in your shoulder. When you put pressure on your shoulder do you feel a knot like bump? That your thumb kind of rolls over? If this is the case, then all you need to do is applie a good amount of pressure to the point. Hold it for about 10 seconds and let up. Its going to hurt like hell. But what your doing is releaseing lactic acid from the muscle, and you will get some relife if you keep up with the self massage. The trigger point should have a burning sensation when compressed. I belive this is what your problem is. Ice the area after you have worked it for about 10 minutes and that should help it.... All moms have these, Make sure you dont over do that side of your arm and keep away from heavy purses... If you still cant get it you are welcome to come to my office, I work in canton. Get back to me. I hope my advice helps out some. I would love to hear if it did the trick.. Also any other questions about do it your self massage Let me know.. By the way I have a little girl named lily also. She just turned 4.

If it pursists for more then a week or 2 I think I would seek medical advice. Try taking Advil or Tylenol and see if that helps with the pain.

You know I am not a DR. but it sounds like you did strain a muscle when this happens you tear the little fibers in the muscle and it can hurt and burn for up to a week or so.The best thing to do is be easy on that area but keep it loose by stretching slightly. Also motrin works! I wanted to add I also moved from central Fla about a year ago and I think you will love it here although it gets a little colder here you get to actually enjoy the changing of the seasons as well as the hills everything is so flat down there. Hope you feel better! TC H. H

hi A.,
ive experienced a similiar problem. i went to the doctor and they suggested physical therapy. to build up my muscles in my shoulder. and try not to use that arm.
it was from carrying around my daughter, even though the quack that i went to see thought i was nuts. and he said that i probably slept on it the wrong way.
it still bothers me a little bit, but not as much.
try to use cold/warm compresses where it hurts. try tylenol or advil.
i hope this helps a little bit

I feel your pain I think i've pulled one in my back! I would see a dr if you can(even though i'm almost positive of mine i'm going to the dr in the morning). They can tell you definetly what's wrong and some good ways to help it heal. I've been puttin a heating pad on mine and my step mom(who's a nurse)said to take ibuprofine(motrin) b/c it helps with the inflamation. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon:)
