The time is here - time to find a swim suit that actually doesn't make me feel awkward. I hate shopping for one and even really wearing one at all. Need some advice....

I turned 40 this year and am still in good shape, the right size for my build, but have a little belly fat - nothing scary tho. Am I too old for a bikini? I think so, of course my hubby says - no - get one... lol men! Every one piece I try on seems to mash my boobs so small that it doesn't even look like I have any. Not that I need them hanging out, but I would rather not look like a teen-age boy either.

Help! Anyone have any swim suit advise or know where to get one that makes you look at least ok?

What can I do next?

You go girl! You wear what you want.
Who cares about a little belly fat? As we have kids & age, that's a very
real part of life.

Try & shop where you can buy the bikini top separate from the bottom.

A lot of stores do this now. Target might even have it that way.

You can shop at "swimsuit stores". More expensive but a big selection &
they sell them separately.

You can find some bikini tops w/more coverage.

Shop for a tankini --or whatever they are calling them these days.
The bottom is like a bikini, but the top (a separate piece) is long and covers your midsection completely.

It's what I have been wearing for a long time now (I'm 43). Usually, you can find a really nice fitting top that flatters. And bottoms are bottoms ya know? For whatever reason, one pieces just have never been comfortable to me.

Land's End has a good selection, especially the ones with skirts. (Tankinis) And their skirts don't look like the old fashioned skirts of yesterday. They are pretty and look good when you come out of the water too!

Land's End also has easy return policies if what you ordered doesn't fit right.

I am 41 and I am 100% with your husband. I rock a bikini and feel just fine about it. I hate the way one piece suits mash you all in. I really like a bikini top with a halter neckline (not the little shoestrings) and full brief or the little shorts bottoms. That tends to hide the problem of a little belly and provide enough support upstairs. I bought my suit at Target last year so nothing fancy. They have so many mix and match styles.

Go for a tankini top and bottom. I really like the swimsuits from titlenine.com . They have great bikini's as well that aren't super skimpy.

Wear what you want and what you feel best in.

The only time I have worn a one piece was when I was going through the Miss America beauty pageant system YEARS ago. I hate one pieces.

I like to shop at places like 'Nothing but Water", Swim and Sport" and get pieces that mix and match. I am a size 2 on the bottoms but I have to have a good top for my perky natural DD"s. You can find suits that are really cute, in style and not teenager style.

You go girl.. and ROCK it!!

I have searched high and low and spent many frustrated trips in dressing rooms all over town. I finally ordered these two online, expecting one or both to llok terrible. They actually both fit perfectly and are extremely flattering. The tank has a fly away front that completely hides my tummy. I bought tight boy shorts to go with it. The ones in this picture are not flattering. The swim dress is so forgiving. It skims all the sins, hips, tummy, butt, and leg cellulite. It's so cute and retro. I'm planning to wear the tank with a black sarong cover up, and the polka dot swim dress with red sandals, bangles, and a big red beach bag.

I'm over 40 and hot like fire (my opinion LOL). I wear a tankini because my pregnancy ruined my pristine stomach with the stretch marks of life. ;-(

If you happen to select a bikini, pick the kind where the top and bottom are sold separately. This way you can get a top that looks perfect on your boobs and bottoms that properly cover your bottom.

Pick a stunning sarong or wrap and go on with your 40 year old hubby still finds you hot self.
