Toddler Suddenly Has Sulfury Breath

Hi ladies! My sweet little two year old has just developed the worst sulfury/slightly fishy breath. It started about 4 days ago, and I can't see any new teeth coming (although he is overdue). I have brushed extra thoroughly and even flossed his teeth for the last two days, but even right after brushing his breath stinks! Any ideas of the cause (and solutions?) Thanks so much.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I did take him to the doctor, even though my son said he felt fine and he didn't have a fever. The Doctor thought he might smell bad because he ate brocolli (a semi-weekly event at our house), or that my sense of smell might just be really sensitive because of "where I am in my cycle" ( Is my husband in "that part of his cycle, too?"). Hmmmmm. Anyway, I feel better because I don't feel like I am potentially ignoring a problem that could cause him long term problems.

My daughter had the worst dragon breath for a while and we switched toothpastes. We tried one that had a mouth wash in it and it did the trick. Maybe that will help.

Check with your pediatrician. Many times an infection can cause bad breath. Does he have a cold?

Has he had a cold? Often w/ sinus infections, the breath gets "icky".

When one of my kids has weird breath, it's almost always the beginning of a cavity. Look super closely at his teeth. I just took my 4 year old to the dentist, and the cavity he had was so superficial they were able to do minimal "drilling" and filling. No novicaine, no tears! Hope this helps.

Oh M. I wish...
no really I had to check in to see what others said.
I would have to agree - sinus infection, or cavity. Also could be an early sign of - H-Pylory Gas and indigestion.
Good luck and repost so we find out.

Bad breath can also be a sign of strep throat.
