To Pee or Not to Pee.

I have been on a low dose birth control pill (because I was nursing when it was prescribed) since my baby was three months old. This is a new pill that I hadn't ever taken before. With my old pill, if I missed one I would just take two the next day and then resume my regular schedule, just like the instructions say. It never caused abnormal bleeding. On this new pill I have had some spotting between periods, and regular heavy periods on time at the end of the pack. Two weeks ago a missed a couple of pills and followed instructions to cover it. Then I had some heavy spotting for 2 days. The next week I was supposed to start my period and nothing happened. A little alarmed I took a pregnancy test last week, the week that I should have started - negative. Still no bleeding or spotting to date. I tend to over think things and I really think I'm a little OCD, LOL. :) After my first positive pregnancy test and scheduling my Dr.'s appointment with my son I took 3 more before my scheduled doctor's visit. Should I take another test? Should I just let it go? Has anyone else had this experience?

What can I do next?

D.,
I had to laugh - you're an RN! If you were my friend, I'd be calling you to ask this question!

I'm sorta OCD myself and I would definitely take another home preg test just to ease my mind - I didn't know they sold them at the Dollar Tree! Then I would schedule that appt with the OB!

Good luck to you!

I am also on a low dose pill and have had the spotting and missed periods (scary) before as you have experienced. I made an appointment with my ob/gyn about the problems and she said it was normal because I've been on this same pill for quite some time. Since you haven't been on this pill for very long, maybe you should discuss these issues with your ob/gyn or at least call and speak to his/her nurse. That will probably help put your mind at ease. You might also want to talk to them about another form of birth control which doesn't require you taking a daily pill since you have a hard time remembering to take it.
Until then, it wouldn't hurt to take another home test (you can get them at the Dollar Tree - - no need to spend 10 times the amount for brand name).

Pee away. I would take another test just to be sure. The mini pill is effective only while you are nursing. Also it is not as effective as the traditional pills you may have taken before you got prego. I have a friend who was nursing and taking the mini pill and still got pregnant! Just to be sure I would take another test and call your OB.

I would have to take another test simply for my own sanity; then I would talk to the doctor about another form of birth control.

I agree you should call your OB office and talk to a nurse. I took that pill but it was 3 yrs ago. Usually when you are nursing you don't have a period. Good luck it is always a little scary.

Keep in mind that the low dose pills rely more on consistency (every day same time) than the higher dose - and that if you weigh much over 140 lbs, the low dose is not really enough for some women.

I would wait a couple more weeks and take another test.

Call you OB's office. And, perhaps the pill isn't the best thing for you. You seems to have trouble taking it as prescribed. And as an RN, you know the importance of taking it properly. And this habit of missing a day, taking two the next, missing 2 days, taking THREE pills the next is way too inconsistent for it to work properly. No wonder you are spotting, etc.

i've had a missed period and spotting in the first three months of being on a new pill. i called the nurse and she said it is just my body getting used to the new pill. If you are still nervous take another test in a few days and if it comes out negative i wouldn't worry about it.

Birth control- I won't touch it anymore. It's a class one carcinogen, and, having survived lymphoma, not worth the risk - or the stress of whether or not it works.

My ob/gyn and I are having a free seminar in two weeks in Carrollton to discuss all of this. May be worth your time to come - it may give you a new perspective or ease your fears even.

All the best to you, and please let me know if I can send you a flyer.
