Omg I'm freaking out! Went out to dinner last night and had tiramisu as dessert. Im not a drinker and it didn't hit me til right now (woke up in a panic) that it's made with coffee licour (sp?) and googling it says it also may be made w raw eggs. I'm 32 wks pregnant. I was worried about the caffeeine content that I didn't even think about what I was eating or what it's made of! Is it ok to eat it or am I justified in my fear/panic/worry?

What can I do next?

My husband and I are coffee/espresso hobbyists. Tiramisu has espresso soaked ladyfingers, but espresso has LESS caffeine than coffee. You will be fine. We also make tiramisu from scratch (mascarpone cheese and all), and there are no raw eggs, rather they are heated over a double-boiler.

You will be OKAY. I'm more concerned that you came home and disected Tiramisu and sent yourself into a panic. Calm down! Some of us had parents that never gave up eggs or alcohol during their pregnancies and the kids all came out fine even.
Stress is worse than a tad of raw egg and liquier.
Stop stressin', that's the lesson.

List of things I ate while pregnant and daughter is fine:
Sushi
Blue Cheese
Wine (small glass)
Cured meats
eggs over easy

Just think how other cultures eat and they turn out perfect kids. Everything in moderation.
Things my daughter has eaten before the age of one:
Strawberries
peanut butter
popcorn
shrimp
fish
dirt
tasted a slug
All with adult supervision. (she was quick with the dirt and slug)
No allergies, rashes, hives or adverse reactions.
If crack babies can turn out normal, you baby is will be just fine.

Please don't worry. I wouldn't do it again, but we're talking about very small amounts. I'm guessing you only had one piece. It's not the same as having a drink. Also, yes too much caffeeine is not good, but a little caffeeine (ie, a cup or two of coffee each day) is fine while pregnant.

I'd probably wouldn't have it again but the I was looking at recipes and the largest amount of alcohol was 1/2 c for the entire dessert so there was very little in the piece you had and some of the recipes heat the egg yolks.

Stop panicing it will be fine if you are really concerned call the place you ate and find out what th ingredients are they may not even use alcohol they might just use espresso.

The tiny amount that you consumed will have no effect on the baby. The stress is alot worse. You'll be just fine.

If you are still worried call the restaurant to see what is in their's. Chances are though it is such a small amount in the portion you actually ate. Being this far along in your pregnancy your baby will most likely not have any adverse reactions. Avoiding most foods is crucial in the very beginning of the pregnancy when cells are dividing/specializing. Your body may feel a bit different not being used to it. If you have no reaction you are fine and your body handled it. if you have some reaction your body will expel it from one end or the other and still handled it. you can always make sure you are drinking plenty or water and eating plenty of fiber to absorb and flush anything leftover.

You're fine....Baby is fine......Relax........You already ate it, so no use in freaking out....If you were going to have a reaction to it (get sick), it would have already happened...The amount of alcohol is nothing to worry about either....Just wait a few more weeks to enjoy it again! :)

Calm down! Pregnant women are allowed one cup of regular coffee a day and it's not like you had a glass or more of wine or brandy. There is very little alcohol in a piece of tiramisu and coffee. It's ok if you don't eat those things ALL the time multiple times a day or week. Drink lots of water and eat extra healthy to make up for it. You will be ok.
