J.....Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Not just the TSH, but all of them. Hypothyroid is a common problem that causes hair loss. Other symptoms are fatigue, weight gain, and depression. It frequently occurs after pregnancy for some reason. If you haven't talked to your dr. about this I would really recomend that you do. I do know that infertility causes hairloss, but it is linked to thyroid issuse as well and not tubals. If this is the problem it is a easy fix.

Yes, have ALL the test done for thyroid done. I've had my tubes done for 3yrs now as well and I've experienced some hormonal changes but not extreme hair loss. If you can't get your Dr to do the test, go see and endocrinologist, they specialize in the 'glands'.

My hair did thin awfully bad after the tube tying but I equated it to being off the prenatal vitamins and change in hormones. My hair thinned after all three of my children were born. Do you think you might be stressed? Stress can also cause hair loss. I would check with a dermatologist before reversing the surgery to make sure that is the cause.:-)

Stress can cause hair loss but sometimes it's stress you experienced 3 months ago so it's hard to pinpoint. But I was losing hair too and had to look back and see if I was stressed 3 months ago. But the others have great opinions too so check out those as well. My tubes were tied as well (no regrets here) so i can't really help you out with the reversal thing.

It's quite possible that your hair loss may be caused by something entirely unrelated to your tubal ligation. Your OB/Gyn maybe can help you figure out what's going on but I'm wondering if you should book an appointment with an endocrinologist as well.

having your tubes tied properly DOES cause infertility: it keeps your ovulated egg out of your uterus.

It has nothing to do with your hormones.

If you are implying your hormones are affected by tubal ligation, that would be incorrect.

If you had had a full hysterectomy (including ovaries), then possibly.

I would suggest checking with your primary care physician first, to find out if there's something physical causing hair loss. They might run some blood tests to check your hormone levels (you may be perimenopausal). If he/she cannot help you, seek a specialist in endocrinology.

The first thing you might want to do is try changing your diet and eating more foods that contain zinc. In addition, a stress b complex vitamin might be helpful if you're very stressed. Stress can cause hair loss. So can viral and fungal infections, and so can thyroid problems, which a primary care physician can definitely help you identify.

I am not a doctor, so I could be wrong. But I do not believe the hair loss has anything to do with your having your tubes tied. Your overies still release an egg each month, and you release the lining (which is the bleeding of a period) each month. You are not chemically/hormonally INFERTIL, only physically (if that makes sense), you have simply cut the tube that your egg would go through to be fertilized. Do you see what I mean? I had some mood swings after my tubes were tied and asked my dr if it was from the tubal. His reply was that this procedure DOES NOT effect your hormones in any way, shape or form.It only takes away the path the egg would need totravel to become fertilized. So my best suggestion is to get in to see a doctor. Also, are you under more stress? Has your diet changed? Have you moved? Changed jobs? These are just SOME of the things that can cause stress which also can cause hair loss.

I don't believe your tubal ligation has anything to do with your hair loss. It's more likely from an imbalance of hormones, stress, thyroid disorder or even an iron defficiency.

You definitely have something going on to cause hair loss, but I'm almost 100% positive it has nothing to do with having your tubes tied 3 years ago. You may well have some sort of hormonal imbalance, but as long as you still have your ovaries, it's not something that would be caused by having your tubes tied. A tubal ligation doesn't necessarily make you "infertile", you would still produce hormomes and release eggs, they just won't be able to find their way through your tubes to the uterus.
You should have a blood panel done to check things out depending on any other symptoms you may be having. It could be any number of things and that's really the only way to rule things out or pinpoint the problem.
Regarding having the tubal reversed, it is possible to have that done. I know a woman who remarried later in life after 3 kids and wanted a child with her second husband. Fortunately, she was successful, then had her tubes tied again after the birth of their little girl. I don't think going through the reversal in hopes of stopping your hair loss would be advised. If you want another baby, I would definitely find out what's causing the hair loss and deal with that part first.

Hi J. - There is such a thing called post tubal ligation syndrome (PTLS) but the symptoms don't include hair loss according to my research. I have had mine tied too and the only side effects I have had are slightly worse PMS (could be an age thing, and the periods themselves are light) and a HUGE regret that I had it done, but that is another story and I'm dealing with that!! I have looked into the reversal and decided against it in terms of having another child (there's the long story) but through my research I found a placed called Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center in NC. The drs. there only do reversals, and only a couple a day, so they are specialists. There are a lot of women on the message board who have had reversals done because of PTLS. I do agree with the others though, get your blood work done and focus on the thyroid. Hopefully you will get to the bottom of this soon!!!

your hair falling out is not realted to your tubes, you are not infertile, the surgery just detoured the eggs that you are still producing, you need to see your physician and not your OB.

It could be related to other hormonal imbalances.
