The Best Date Ever?

Tell me about the best date you've ever been on. What made it amazing? Did you do anything unique?

I'm feeling a little bit down (broke up with a guy I thought was amazing after finding out he's an insecure, control freak A$$). I'd like to know that there's still awesome romance in the world.

What can I do next?

Gosh, I'm going to say this even though I know it sounds really mushy. The best "date" I've ever been on wasn't even a date. It was matress night with my husband.

Matress night is where we put all the kids to bed and then pull the matress down to the living room and have a slumber party of sorts. We play games, watch movies, dance, have a glass of wine, do some fun stuff ;). We stay up later than we would under any other circumstance, even if we had gone out. We talk about things that we never have time to talk about. We laugh and joke around. We watch really dreadful movies and laugh at them (think Mystery Science Theatre type stuff). It's the most fun time and all we had to do was move the matress.

I think it comes down to the company. I've been taken on cookie cutter romantic dates that I would not call amazing. Been taken to expensive romantic restraunts in a perfect candlelit setting, taken limo to concerts, operas, movies. Camping trips, flowers, gifts, you name it. But none of them stand out.

The best date ever was the 1st date with my husband. We met at TGIF. Not an amazing start - he didnt pick me up and his idea of a date was Fridays! But we had the best time. We laughed and talked and our eyes just sparkled with chemistry. Neither of us has ever forgotten a single detail. He can tell you exactly what I wore, how my hair was fixed, what we talked about, even what I ordered and the waiters name he spilled a beer on! It was a magic memorable night at the local TGIF.

Nice post! I am goig to share with you ladies something that only close friends know about me, but it is a nice experience.....The best date ever was with my husband. I met him in Chile, South America. Both of us were working for different companies. There was this international fair for trading companies from all over the world.Nice place, nice people...fun.
He invited me to a beautiful and elegant restaurant by the lake, far away from town, piano music, everything was decorated in pastels. I remember the place smelled so nice! It was raining. We talked about everything, we laughed, we shared our experiences. After finishing dinner, we went out to the balcony, and admired the lake, we felt the drizzle and a soft wind, we held our hands, and since then we have been together that is why the BEST DATE EVER.....I learned that good happens.......miracles happen...just like that. Now that we are in Thanksgiving..I am thankful for this date.

One of the best dates I remember was with a guy that I dated breifly in college who was two years younger than I was. I was 20 at the time and he was 18... The date lasted almost 24 hours !! He picked me up, we went paintballing, had lunch, saw a movie, visited some friends of his that had a music studio (sooo much fun), grabbed some dinner, went to popular New Orleans reggae club (my favorite type of music), went to the lake front in New Orleans and chatted for hours, left and went to my place and chatted more, made out (chemistry was amazing), but we decided to leave it at a kiss for the time being, and we fell asleep in each other's arms....He was a very nice, charming, intelligent, and handsome man, but timing was bad...

Ditto "One and Done" ...I had a guy fly me from SoCAL out to his boat house on his private plane. It was soooo beautiful, but the guy was a narcissistic, controlling jerk. Like wouldn't let me eat, because he didn't want me to gain weight.. I was hungry the whole time.

Best date after that...a German guy I met in Sweden, we took a slow train ride out to the middle of no where, walked through this gorgeous trail in the fall and there was this beautiful, candle lit restaurant, with nothing around it. That was magical.

C., belielve me, YOUR guy is out there....When I was a single mom, I wrote a list of what I liked and did not like, wanted and did not want in a man...and then I prayed about it and I put myself 'out' there, meaning I told friends and family that I was open to a relationship if they knew of any quality guys. I only had to give in on one issue with my current husband, and that is is lack of common sense and humor....but because he is sooo gullible, he's funny in a different way. We laugh all the time at stuff he doesn't get.

Honestly? My husband and I go out a few times a year, we hope to start doing it more now that we have a sitter we trust.

Last March, my husband and I went about an hour away for the weekend to celebrate our birthdays (9 days apart). We got there and obviously had dinner, did some romantic things, and slept in. The BEST part of that weekend? We sat on the couch in the condo we rented, his feet on the table, my feet in his lap, and we both read our own books in complete silence. Oh it was HEAVEN!!! We hadn't done that in 7 years!!

Sometimes its the little things that mean the most :).

Well, the guy was a bit of a dud, O. of the most amazing and memorable dates I ever went on was with a pilot who took me for a ride in his small plane. I had never been on a small private plane before that!

So, A++++ for originality, uniqueness and effort but, like I said...dud.

Best date was the first date my future husband took me on. He took me to a really nice restaurant, EBT's in KCMO, and to the theatre. I still remember his scollops were over cooked and to make up for it they brought us desert for free. He remembered the start time for the theatre production wrong. So, we ended up walking in late, halfway through Julius Caesar. He had never seen the play before, so I whispered a quick explanation of the first act to him. We didn't want to say good night even though I had a sales meeting in the morning and he was headed to Idaho. Kissed forever in the parking lot in front of my apartment building.

There have been other dates that were very special, but that was the one we laugh about and remember as the start of us. There is a guy who is not a jerk for you out there somewhere. Sometimes a rocky first date can turn into something wonderful.

PS - We had comedy and tragedy masks on our wedding cake in honor of that date three years later.
