Hello moms! I am newly single and have a male friend who is new to the DFW area so he has no idea what there is here. We want to go on a first date - once I find a sitter - but have run into a little dilemma. Does anyone out there have a good idea for a first date?

What can I do next?

For a fun food idea, what about Hola's for tapas. You get a bunch of small plates of different types of food and it can help keep conversation flowing. The Grape is cozy, small and romantic. York street is also small and unique, but more pricey. For a fun, very casual comedy experience, Ad Libs downtown is always fun. One other idea is the theater - since it is Christmas you can go see A Christmas Carol at Dallas Theater Center and then drive through Highland Park looking at some beautiful, professional lighting jobs with a latte from Starbucks. Yum!

Try the Dallas Museum of Art or the World Aquarium downtown, then there is the West End or McKinny Ave for dinner.
If you are closer to Ft Worth there is the Bass Hall (not sure what is playing) and Sundance Square Downtown or the Stock Yards is always fun.

Then there is always Dinner and a Movie

Hope this Helps

The Shops at Legacy! My favorite date spot. I am a single mom to and I love when I can get out with adults. There are so many places to eat plus little shops to look around in and it is all decorated for Christmas right now! Let me know how it goes.

Cafe Izmir is great. I would second that recommendation (as well as looking through www.guidelive.com). The Grape in lower Grenville is also supposed to be romantic and veyr good. The Dallas ARt Musuem is open late a couple nights a month. That might be might let you talk a bit more than you would in a movie. The Gaylord in Grapevine has a really interesting looking restaurant -- Ama Lur I think -- and then you could go to that ICE exibit there. That looks like a lot of fun too.

One of my favorite dates with my hubby b.c.(before children) was Pocket Sandwich Theatere. It was so much fun - they do funny comedy shows with some audience participation, popcorn throwing is encouraged, and it is a small theatre (very casual) so you sit close enough to see everything. They also serve food during the show so if things aren't going well you don't have to extend the evening or drinks/coffee afterwards if things go well. Hope you have a fun date! Here is the link:

Dinner and a movie is always a good date or just dinner and make got get ice cream or something fun like that after dinner. I would just keep it simple for the first date. Where do you live and maybe I could tell you some good places to eat.

My sweet hubby and I met on Match.com...our first date was breakfast at Barbecs (which is in East Dallas)..we both lived near White Rock Lake and it was a good place to meet :) Our second date was lunch at the State Fair (but that is already over..)..so, what about going to Holiday in the Park at Six Flags? You could prob even get some really discount tickets on Craigslist or Ebay (hehe..a guy likes a thrifty girl that knows how to stretch a dollar :) ) Good luck!

I guess it all depends on how well you know each other. Are you guys complete strangers or somewhat acquaintenances? How much money do you want to spend?

My husband took me to a wonderful, nice Mediterrean restaurant on lower Greenville Ave. in Dallas called Cafe Izmir for our first date. It's very romantic at night - dimly lit with candle light. They offer a dinner for two - either completely vegetarian or with meat, whichever you prefer - and it's like a 2 or 3 course meal. Have a bottle of wine --and the conversation will flow effortlessly. Get dessert and Turkish coffee and it's a wonderful date. We still go back for special occasions. It's about $100 for both of us, but so worth it - including the wine, dessert and coffees. If you're both a little adventurous in your taste buds, you'll enjoy it. I was so impressed he took me here for our first date - something completely unique and different -- not like other dates that had taken me to bland average Bennigan's or Chili's for dates. All of the food was absolutely delicious! And we're big meat-eaters so we loved the meat dinner for two. That was the best first date I've ever had and I'm not just saying that because I ended up marrying him.

Also: do you guys share a hobby or interest like golf or the arts? You can do something like the golf driving range or the batting cages at Adventure Landing; or go to an exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art --- just to do something different than the average date movie thing. I wouldn't go to a movie for the first date -- you can't talk during a movie!
