I had a lot of people say I was having a girl because my baby had a high rate. I had never heard of this method either. But so many people said the same thing I thought there might be something to it. I had a boy. Like every other method, it's just a guessing game.

Not true. According to the heart rate tale (and the ring on a string, and the chinese calendar, and the way you carry, etc), my little girl should have been a boy.

Just fun things to help you pass the 9 months. =)

Old wives tale! I am a nurse-midwife and I listen to heartbeats all day. Babies are just like adults- when they move around or get excited their heartrates go up. When they are at rest they are lower. At the beginning of pregnancy heartrates are higher and later in pregnancy they are lower... None of the old wive tales (carrying high/low, shape of your nose, etc) are true but they are lots of fun! Even ultrasound is wrong sometimes!

I'm pregnant w/ a girl right now and her heart rate really fluctuates with the time of day and whether or not I've eaten anything.. My first heart rate was 164, the second dropped down to the 153 (the nurse told me it was probably a boy then) and then at the u/s to see the sex, her heart rate was in the 160's again. All just depends. I've been told you can tell by how you're carrying a lot easier though. If the baby is low, it's typically a boy, and if you're carrying high, it's a girl. Do you have any feelings on what you're having???

My friend has had 3 babies and with her the heart rate tale was true for each baby. But for me it wasn't. with my second going the by the heart rate I was having a boy but at 5 months I found out the baby was a girl. So I think it's just an old wives tale and it can be right sometimes but it's still just a guess. I mean there are only 2 options....girl or boy so it's not that hard to guess and have it be right.

I think it is just a wives tale. There may be some truth behind it, but my son was in the upper 150's and now im due with a girl anyday and hers has been between the 130's and 140's. So you just never know.

That is so funny. Yes I have heard that same line before. And my son will be 29 years old this September. Even as he was being delivered. My husband and I were asked what we wanted, he said a boy I said a girl. That was all I heard the old time of my pregnancy, which is why I had a huge box of girls clothes and brought a little pink outfit to take her home in. The reason we were asked the gender question is because we were told, "well I it looks like it is girl by the crown of her heard with all that hair." I began wondering how it would be to have a little girl after having three boys. Not far into my thinking he was born and my husband is excited, "I told you it was another boy" Humans only know so much, they can't even tell you the day the baby will arrive. I never had an ultrasound, and never wanted to know the gender of my babies. I just wanted them healthy. But when everytime I turned around someone used their method of determining which gender of this baby, I was always happy to be told 'you're having a girl'. You may want to purchase the book An Essential Practical Guide to Family Living on www.destroyingyokes.com to help with parenting and other family and marital issues. Readers are responding favorably. That is so funny they are still telling mothers that. Just pray for good health because you will love your baby regardless At this point only God knows.

It was true for all 4 of my children! But the heart rate can fluctuate so I always went by the resting heart rate. For example, when the doctor would push on the baby, the heart rate would go up. My sons would always be in the 130/140s range and could go up to the 160s when stimulated. But again, it is a 50/50 chance to be right so who knows for sure!

Old wives tales always have a 50/50 chance of being correct. :) My son was always solidly in the range of "girl" heartbeat.

my doc told me the exact same thing - early on in the pregnancy. then at our 20 week ultrasound - surprise! It's a boy! So that wives tale wasn't true for me. :) The only wives tale that proved true for me was I had heartburn every single darn day for about the last 4 months - and sure enough he was born with a TON of hair.

It's an old wives tale....but they do say above 150 tends to be a girl. I have a daughter and I'm pg with another girl...both had 150s for heart rates. But I have friends who have boys and they said their boys had 150s as well. So I wouldn't start painting anything pink just yet. :)

I heard that too when I was pregnant. I just had a little girl and her heart rate was 140 pretty much the whole time. How far a long are you? If you are in too wise tales check the chinese calendar. It was right for my friends and I.
