Hey Mamas. Just a kinda goofy question here. What was the heartbeat of your child in utero at around 10-14 weeks at what is the gender? I know it's an old wives tale about the heart rate and whether its a boy or a girl but I'm just curious. I can't remember exactly what my sons was but it was somewhere between 145-160 on a regular basis (yeah, big gap I know). With this one its been between 162-170. It doesn't matter what I have I'm just curious and can't wait to find out:-) Thanks

What can I do next?

Too funny, because I always was interested in that too. My daughter's first heart rate was in the 150s and my Son's was around 110. When I asked the PA with my son, she just kind of smiled and said she wouldn't put money on it but sounded like a boy to her. I always heard girls 140s and above and boys 110-130s. But I know my nephew was in the 150s, so it doesn't always work.

My daughters was usually in the 120's, my son was 150-165. This one is all over the place, one time 120, 160, 140. Its tough guessing this one. I have no idea!
But I heard boys were faster than girls. It probably means nothing though. People always laugh and get offended when Im fascinated by this, so watch out.

Both my girls had heart rates that were usually in the 150s. I had nonstress tests frequently with the second baby and her heart rate would go as low as 100 up to the 170s region. My doctor had an old wives tail of her own. She asked me to hold my hands out in front of me. If the hands are palm down, girl; palm up, boy.

Hi C.,

Girls are usually 160 or higher. This is NOT an old wives' tale!! My nurse practitioner told me that it is a statistical norm for girls to be in the 160's and boys to be in the 140's-150's. My two girls were both in the upper 160, lower 170 range.

I think you have yourself a little girl!! :)

Either way, Congratulations!

My son's heart rate was all over the place!! If he was being super active (most of the time), it was really high. If he was in a resting period, they were lower. He didn't really have an average.

A girls heart rate is typically higher (that's been my personal experience)...but don't use that as an exact science to determine the gender. Rely on an ultrasound to know for sure.

I can't remember the numbers, but it's not an old wives tale about boy's and girl's heart rates being different in utero. However, it's not an absolute when you're listening to it. One is usually higher than the other's though! Several medical pregnancy books I had when I was pregnant discussed it.

My 1st daughter was in the 170s. Our 2nd daughter was 159... She's more laid back too!

My OB told me fetal heartrate is an inaccurate way to predict gender until after 32 weeks. We found out the sex of our 3rd with an ultrasound pic taken at 13 weeks that shows the genital tubercle or nub. Try googling it. It actually very accurate!

It was 160 and we had a girl. What's interesting is my OB told me that a faster heart rate indicates a boy. My sister-in-law's OB told her it indicates a girl! HAHAHA I love the mystery of trying to figure out what I'm having! Have fun with it. Are you doing any other "tests" like the pin over your belly etc... If you do a bunch I think you should keep track and then let us know if any were correct :) CONGRATULATIONS!!
