Hi moms,

I was wondering if anyone has taken an active four year old to the CA Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. It has the Aquarium, Planetarium, Natural History Museum, etc. I haven't been in years and I understand the new remodel job is amazing. I'm just a little worried that it won't captivate my four year old as much as I would hope. I'm thinking it has to be geared for small kids too...but just thought I'd throw it out to Mamasource for any advice, tips, etc.

Thanks mamas!

So What Happened?

Hi moms,

Thank you for your responses...the place was great! The remodel job is wonderful and there is so much to see. I was worried because my guy was being whiny that morning and wanted me to carry him; but the minute we entered the building and he saw all the sights he was off and running! He even sat through the Bugs 3D movie (20 minutes) and the Planetarium "movie" which was about 25 minutes. I was amazed! We got there about 10:00 (it opens at 9:30) and it was already starting to get full. I would definitely recommend getting there early and getting your passes for the 3D movie and Planetarium right away (they are free).
Thanks again moms!
:)

Hi, I absolutely think a 4 year old would love it. I have a four year old and she LOVES it! I have a 17 month old that loves it too. They've done an amazing job on the new structure. And if worse come to worse take your 4 year old to the Children's Park near the Merry go Round. If crowds are an issue wait a couple of weeks when school is back in session. May I also suggest Gilroy Gardens. It's a long drive but 4 year olds REALLY dig it. There are no crowds and no lines during the week. There's a water play area so bring a swimsuit and water shoes.

My 2 year old had a blast I know it will only get better for him with age. Be forewarned though, it is packed and the line for the Rainforest exhibit was insanely long (it was really neat though). Are you planning a trip before or after summer break? If you can, I'd plan for after...

Have fun!

It was VERY crowded when I was there. If you think this will be a problem for you or your child, maybe call and ask them when might be a time it is less crowded.

Hi S., I've taken my 2 year old there, and she seemed to really enjoy it. I think there is plenty there to capture a four year old's attention, particularly the aquarium (which is HUGE) and the rainforest exhibit. Plus you will probably enjoy it too :) It's really an awesome place!
