Swimming Lessons - Saint Louis,MO

I have a three year old that loves the water. I have been trying to find swim lessons for her so she can be a little more water savvy with the summer coming up. I sent her to the south city YMCA for all of three classes and pulled her out because I was so unhappy with them for many reasons. I have seen advertisements for little fishes swim school, but they are indoors and a little on the expensive side (at their price I might consider private lessons). I was hoping that you guys might have some good suggestions. I live in the south city area so anything there or in the county. I like the idea of a week long camp or even somewhere that she could take lessons for thirty minutes and then we could swim for fun afterwards.

What can I do next?

We currently go to Little Fishes Swim School, so I can give you the inside scoop. We joined b/c my daughter is 18M & is afraid to get her hair/face wet. While I know my daughter enjoys swimming more, I do think it's over priced. My child is the youngest & least experienced of the group but coach after coach have failed to give me any tips, helpful suggestions & basically tells us we're doing "a great job" eventhough all I do is model what the other parents are doing. My child still will not tolerate getting her face or hair wet, unless we're in swim class. Little Fishes is indoors & consists of an over sized hot tub (only 10 people allowed). The water is 97 degrees (which feels good) but the facility is dark & insanely humid (85% humidity). You feel like you're going to have a stroke upon entering & I cannot imagine what it's like in the summer. There is nothing they do that I feel I couldn't do at any pool. I'd try a community pool. That's what I plan on doing once our session is up. Or you could stop by & take a look. You'd know if it was right for you after 5 minutes of watching a class. The other parents in our class love the place but their kids also are easy going in the water, so they don't need any guidance.

We take our little ones to The Center of Clayton. They have a really great parent/child swim class. I know YMCAs and other summer camps do the same. Good luck!

The Richmond Heights rec center has swim classes that I've heard great things about. I'm planning on going there. They have a great indoor pool and slides too. I think they are pretty reasonable and cheaper that the little fishes school.

My sister and I take out kids to the YMCA on Sublett the new one by the Police Station. We like the instructors there that do the children swim classes. We have never had a problem with them.
