Hey fellow Swiffer users, how often do you deep clean your kitchen floors and what method do you use? My parents had us hand wash the kitchen floors with a rag and a bucket of soapy water growing up and I HATED it! So I never do it now, haha, and use the Swiffer and then sometimes get out the "real" mop, but not often enough I think. Sometimes I wonder if the Swiffer really does much of anything anyway....what are your thoughts?
I use my Swiffer more like for quickies....I still think the best way is bucket of water, some cleaner & a rag. Hands & knees.
I have to be in the mood...about every 2 weeks or so.
It's amazing what Swiffers miss! lol
Thinking about a steamer.
I bought a swiffer and just couldn't use it. It didn't cut it for me. The handle is WAY to flimsy to actually CLEAN anything. It just grabs some loose lint or whatever and that's it.
I bought a Eureka EnviroSteamer and it ROCKS!! I did lots of online research and am very happy with the machine I selected. It was a lot less expensive than some of the ones you see advertised and available right off the shelf in Target and Walmart. This one had to be ordered via Walmart (ship site to store), which is no extra charge... it just meant I had to wait a few extra days before I had it in my hands. But it only cost around $70 instead of over $100 like some of the others with lesser reviews.
I'm guilty of not mopping very often- maybe every other month. I use the swiffer daily for the crumbs and stuff, and if there's a sticky spot, or a spot the swiffer won't clean, I grab a Huggies Natural Care Wipe. :)
It's amazing what those things'll clean! I once had splatter marks on a wall from a sippy cup that fell and popped open. I cleaned up the floor, but didn't notice the walls until the next morning when they had already dried. The wipe took it right off, no problem. They also work well at cleaning the wood part of our kitchen chairs that get all crusty from our little one handling the spindles with grungy little hands. They are faster, easier, and cheaper than paper towels and a bottle of spray cleaner- and no chemical smell (I buy in bulk). I think I'll even keep buying them after my DD is finally potty trained. (I once used Pampers wipes, and they left a really slippery spot on the floor where I used it. The Huggies are thicker, and leave no residue.)
I use a wet swiffer everyother day or whenever my socks start turning brown on the bottom. I use my bissel steam cleaner 1 to 2 times a week to sanitize and remove all the stuff the swiffer leaves behind. I do have to sweep with a broom my floors daily...we dont' have a mud room so everything is brought right in the front door...YUCK!
Are we talking the old style dry swiffer or wet swiffer?
The idea of a rag and soapy water grosses me out and makes me think unsanitary. I like the idea of the wet swiffer because while it is very disposable it gets my kitchen floor cleaned a heck of a lot more often than if I had to pull out a mop, pull out a bucket, mix a cleaning solution... Plus I'd like to believe it is more hygienic.
i never real mop, but i use the swiffer every day in bathrooms and kitchen floors.
I am so guilty of not mopping enough. It seems like such a hard job and that I really don't get the floor clean so I avoid it. I like the review for the Eureka Envirosteamer. Thanks Victoria W! I looked at Amazon and there are some amazing detailed reviews. I may have found something I can and WILL use!
Personally, I've gone back to mopping. From my experience, the Swiffer left a sticky film on my floors and actually started collecting dirt in the corners. Just kinda grossed me out.
I'll use the dry Swiffer since I have 2 dogs and some hardwoods. But gave up the other.
I'm afraid I'm not a fan of Swiffer anymore. You spray a chemical on your floor, swish the chemical plus the dirt and bacteria around on your floor, then throw away the portion of the dirt and bacteria that happened to stay on the pad. The rest of the dirt, the chemical residue, and the rest of the bacteria are still on your floor after all that work! Then as new bacteria move in, they slowly become resistant to the leftover chemical AND the dirt/bacteria are being attracted back faster than ever by that moist, smelly residue you've covered your floor with.
To me, mopping (even with a swiffer) is hard work and when I'm done, I don't want my floor to be even dirtier than when I started. What's the point? So now I use a microfiber mop from a company called Norwex that I purchased at a home-based sales show a friend had. It has an adjustable handle, a base with velcro on the bottom just like Swiffer, a dry pad that I use first for picking up dry dirt/debris, and then a wet pad that literally just gets everything, even tough spots, using just WATER! It removes 99.9% of the bacteria without leaving anything behind and then it has silver embedded in the microfiber that kills off the bacteria on contact. I like removing things from my floor, not just swishing them around, and then I can just toss the mop pads in the wash and not create any waste.
I hate swiffer mops. I do have one similar but requires no batteries, has pads you wash and reuse, and you refill the bottle with any cleaner you want much more economical and greener then the swiffer.
I only get on my hands and knees and scrub the areas that I cannot reach well with the mop.
I have a steam mop and love it! Only uses plain water, although I know of people who use a little vinegar with the water. I use our central vac on the floors beforehand to get all the crumbs and dust, etc. It really is amazing how clean the floors get -- so much easier than getting on your hands and knees - I have a lot of wood floors and just thinking about cleaning that way makes my knees and back hurt! I usually do the main kitchen/mud room area once a week or so, then the hallway and rest once a month or so. I will use the swiffer on the vinyl floors that we do have, only because it's easy enough for my kids to use. =)
When my toddler was crawling I use to wash the floors with a brush and then clean all the soap with a wet towel until water run clean and then use the steam mop twice a week and everyday I would use the steam mop everyday. When the start walking I would do deep cleaning once a week and sometimes during the week I would use the steam mop.
Now she is almost 3 and I use the swiffer and every once in a while do a deep cleaning with regular brush and soap.
EDIT: Ok I just notice you are talking about the dry swiffer? I use normal broom and then the wet swiffer, I guess it also depends in what kind of floors you have, in our house before we had the Italian ceramic tiles and it was HARD to clean because they were not even, now we have common floors and they are very easy care.
