Suggestions to Stop Wetting Through

I've found that, for boys (I have 18 month old twin boys), diaper doublers are the way to go. They seem to work better with boy bits and are less expensive to use than overnight diapers. A pack of 30 only costs $2.99.

I did what one of the ladies below did--I used a maxi pad in the front of my little boy's diaper...it did the trick!

My kiddo did the same thing. I agree about not limiting fluids. We found Diaper Doubles at Babies R Us in the diaper section. They are a pad you place in the center of the diaper to absorb more wetness. We start with one but finally used 2 at a time at night the make it through the night. They are a package of 30 for about $3 and worked great!

This won't stop the leaks, but it may help. If you aren't already, make sure that "he" is pointing down. Good Luck!

I would try 2 diapers or plastic liners that are used for potty training. Also protect his skin on his bottom and inside legs.

I had the same thing with my son, I would use Huggies overnites with an inexpensive diaper over it, one size larger. No more leaks after that.

Try giving him a warm bath or something before bedtime that will make him go the bathroom before falling asleep?

Pull ups are not very absorbant so if that's what you're using, that's not a great solution. A diaper that is too big will have more absorbsion, but will likely gape at the legs and leak there.

Huggies has an overnight diaper that doesn't start until size 4. I'd try that. If that isn't working, then perhaps he still needs a very quick, very quiet diaper change in the middle of the night.

I use cloth diapers, and one of the things that cloth diaper users often use at night is a fleece or wool soaker over the diapers. Both pull moisture away from baby but keep it off of clothing. I think it would help even on top of a disposable to keep clothing and sheets dry, and keep him a little dryer as well. I"m a fan of wool myself, and what a lot of people don't understand about wool is that it is warm in the winter but it's cool when it's hot. Have you ever seen a sweaty sheep? ha ha

I would warn against the "plastic pants" and vinyl ones that Gerber sells at wal mart. These aren't good for baby's skin, and will just trap moisture and heat in next to baby, even if it is protecting the clothes and sheets. Even most cloth diaper users dont' use those anymore. Also, vinyl and plastic aren't great for kids (pthalates galore) so you wouldn't want that on your son. WOol is well known for its breathability. THat's why hiking socks are wool - they absorb moisture away from the feet (wicking it away) and hold it without feeling wet, and they breathe.

If you'd like more info about using wool as a diaper cover (or fleece) don't hesitate to send me a message through mamasource. I can point you to patterns to sew a fleece one (or if someone you know sews) or patterns to knit a wool one (though many people use old wool sweaters and will make them).

Have you tried putting maxipads, placed stratigically as to whether it is a bot or girl? That helped when my son was that age!

I tried the diaper pad it didn't work but one size larger night diapers helps.

My mom had a diaper cover when we where little (she used cloth diapers). They are plastic. Try looking for a plastic cover to go over his diaper...we went through this a while back and the night diapers seem to hold. Once in a blue moon we are still having to do a change at night.

Is it possible that the position that he is sleeping in is contributing to the leaks? When my daughter was that age, I noticed that if she slept on her side or somehow had her torso twisted, the urine would run out through the leg holes. Just an idea...

I had a friend with a similiar problem and this is what she did and it worked wonderfully. Go to the store and buy some depends liners( the ones seniors use). They look like oversized pads. At night slip one in his diaper, it will catch the overflow. They actually sell something similiar online, I think they are called diaper liners but they are the same thing with a higher price tag. It may sound a bit odd but it worked. Other than this all i can recommend is setting a timer for yourself and changing his diaper throughout the night.

We were having the same problem a couple of months ago, when ours was about 14 months. I went with the Huggies Overnight diapers and they've worked like a charm. They get really full and huge, but no more wet PJs in the morning. They still fit the same and don't seem to be any more bulky (before they get all wet).

I had completely overlooked the Overnights on the diaper aisle until my sister called me a doofus and said I needed go get some. I guess I thought they were something like the pullups and were meant for older babies.

You can try what I used to used to stem the flow of diarhea...

I would take one (or two depending on how bad it was) cloth diapers and line a size larger diaper with it. It made for a bit more laundry, but, it prevented me from having to clean bed sheets, clothes and mattresses...

I don't know how to stop the wetting through, but you should be sure to protect his skin. You can keep a thick layer of petroleum jelly in his diaper area, including crevices. Let him "air out" as much as possible when he's up and moving around.

If the overnight diapers are not working try to change him once during the night. I had to do this with my son at one point and he wouldn't even wake up.

Huggies has a night time diaper that works real well and I have found even cheaper some liners at babies r us called diapers doubles. I just started using the liners and They work just as well as the night time diaper. They come in a pack of 30 for $2.99 instead of $25 or so for a pack of 32 diapers. We did have a leak with his liners but his rear was so high in the air nothing was going to prevent leaking and I remember at least one leak with the night time diaper. hope this is helpful

Oh my gosh!! How frustrated are you?? I know I was super frustrated!! I was going thru the same thing with my 2 yr old. He was wetting thru everynight and i was changing sheets every morning. thank God for the mattress pad, right!! :) I can't afford to double up diapers, or any of those suggestions. What I have done is buy Huggies Overnights in a size bigger than he normally wears and change him right when you put him in the bed. I can say we have been very successful. He has gone a week now without me having to change the sheets!! Hallelujah!!!

My son is 6 years old and is potty trained but at night still needs a overnight pull up. He sometimes leaks too. The Dr. said it is normal. I limit the amount of fulids he gets after 6pm but sometimes that still doesn't even help. I haven't found anything that works! It is frustraing having to change cloths and sheets everynight but that is the only thing I have found to do.

I am not an expert at this by any means, but what I have found that works with my son is using a diaper cover over the disposable. These can be purchased online at cottonbabies.com, and are waterproof, and come in a variety of sizes and styles.. this combined with the disposable, or even a few cloth diapers (if you use those) could help. I know the liners work for me. Also with my boy, it helped it I tucked his little "man" down. It it was left up, it would leak right up thru the tummy part of the diaper. Hope that helps!

Ohhh, my son use to do the same when he was a baby. He slept on his belly with his knees underneath him so his diaper would bunch and he would leak out and get soaked. My mother suggested I put his diaper on backwards so that the diaper covered more of his belly and it worked! No more bunching, either.

I use to have this problem too. the overnight diapers didn't work for us but changing the diaper to one size larger did work. good luck:)

You might want to try changing him during the night. Set your alarm at around 2 or 3 and change him. What you don't want to happen is that he will develop ringworm from the constant moisture. Good luck.
