My 7 1/2 month old is waking up every morning soaked; right down to the sheets. We give him an 8 ounze bottle at 7:30 then off to bed until 8am. I have tried Huggies and Pampers cruisers. It seems all the urine is trapped in the front of the diaper then comes out the top. Any suggetions?

What can I do next?

Did you try to double diaper him? Put one that is the next size up over his diaper. I like pampers baby dry and find that huggies leak for my baby.

Have you tried going up a diaper size? Something else you could try are Huggies Overnites. I had similar problems with my son and these are the things that worked for me. Good luck.

Michele-
I will offer a couple things. First of all, for my two older boys we had to use overnights. We used the Huggies brand overnights. I don't know how small they come, but that may work. Also, try a bigger size. I have noticed with my youngest that when he starts wetting through, it is time to go up a size. Not necessarily because he fits into that weight category, but because he is wetting through. I don't know if that helps you at all, but those are my thoughts. I hated when they would wake up soaking wet. You almost want to give them a bath and then you do have to change all their bedding...

That 8 ounces has to go somewhere. Change the diaper...and just wait...he will eventually get potty trained. Diapers and babies just go together...it is natural.

Costco diapers work fine for our son. He fills them up! We change him around 9:30pm before we go to bed; about an hr after his last 6ozs. I like the idea of trying the next size.

Good luck!

When my son was that age, the same thing was happening to him. I asked around about it and one of my friends told me to put his diaper on backwards just for bedtime, we tried it and it seemed to work.
Also maybe you need to move to the next size up, or use overnights.

Try putting vinyl underpants over his diaper. Gerber makes them and Babies R' Us has them.

Try not giving him a bottle right before going to bed, have his last bottle be 2 hours before bedtime. Also make sure you are putting him to bed complety dry.

One thing you could try would be to put rubber pants on over his diaper. My son had the same problem. The rubber pants helped everything not to get soaked.

My daughter was the same way. The only thing that worked for us was two diapers. The first one put on corretly, then the second one on top, but backwards. Worked like a charm. G.

I am not trying to be smart when I say this....but when I read it back it just sounds that way to me. Honestly I am not trying. But anyhow. I do not think you can expect any diaper to hold urine for 12 and 1/2 hours. Even if it were Super absorbant, with moving, bunching of the fibers happen and it will leak somewhere. What we did with our children is to change them one last time before we went to bed. And now that we go to bed early, we get up extra early to change the diaper so he can sleep in. They never wake up when we do this, it is absolutely amazing, he will lift his butt up and help us and still continue to sleep. We are able to rest easy too, knowing his skin isn't laying against urine for tall that time. If we are concerned he is sleeping extra light for some reason, we won't use a wipe taht time and just slap a dry diaper on. That way he won't feel that cold wet feeling and wake up. But most times we just change it like usual and he sleeps through the whole thing. Good luck. I feel your washing sheets everyday pain.

Have you thought of trying cloth diapers?? There are many mom's in the Pittsburgh area that have cloth diaper businesses that could help you out- Green Earth Baby, E-a-poo's, and myself Dinker & Giggles.

Another option is the disposable diaper is either too big or too small for him- try looking for one that is designed for boys in his size. They put extra of the absorbent gel-stuff in the front to help catch it.

Another option is put him in a fleece bottom- either shorts, pants, whatever as the fleece will help with the 'wicking' of the urine.

We use Huggies overnights and we changed the bedtime bottle from 8 oz to 6 oz, then to 5, and now down to 4 oz at bedtime to eliminate wetting through. No more issues!

We use Diaper Doublers. You can buy them at Babies R Us...they are in insert that remind me of a maxi pad. We had the same problem and these helped. You can a pack for 2.99 or something like that. I actually cut them in two and get twice as many out of the pack.

Someone else had this same problem a couple of days ago. They got lots of responses..you might want to check their responses.

But this is what I wrote for them:
I use cloth diapers and never have a problem. But one thing you could do is combine a bit of cloth diaper wisdom with disposable diapers. Put on his normal diaper..or nighttime diaper (and using a bigger size doesn't really help..they aren't any more absorbent, just bigger). Then use a wool diaper cover. I use them (Actually, I also sell them). You can buy cheap ones or expensive ones...but they all work the same. Get one that is 100% wool. You can do some research on the internet. Wool is an incredible natural fiber. It is incredibly absorbant. Using a wool cover over diapers is much better than using a plastic cover. The wool allows the skin to breathe, so there is no diaper rash. In the morning, the wool diaper cover will feel damp on the inside..but all the wetness will stay contained! There are lots of good websites on the internet. Anyway, a wool diaper cover is my suggestion!

Good luck!

AH yes - this happened with both of my boys too. At night, go up one diaper size. Increasing diaper size isn't just about size/weight of baby...it is also about absorbancy! Also - make sure his pee pee is pointing down. This works!!

I know all babies are shaped different and certain diapers only work for certain babies, but for my 12 year old and my 3 1/2 year old triplets, they only used Luvs as babies and never leaked unless they were ready to move up to a bigger size. They run a bit bigger and wider. No matter which diaper they used, if they still leak, there's not allot you can do. One of my triplets was a very heavy wetter. I would use waterproof mattress pads under your sheets to save the mattress. And use some large waterproof pads under them that can be easily pulled out and washed. At 7 1/2 months you can't limit drinks before bed very easily.

We had night time issues with our son also. I found that Huggies makes an "overnight" diaper in the smaller size. We were able to buy a size 3 or 4 diaper, which at first was a bit big but I just put it on tight and it did the trick for us. We haven't seen a wet sheet since...and we saw a lot before overnights. We like cruisers for daytime, but we couldn't find a small enough night time diaper from pampers. I have a hard time finding the size, giant eagle & CVS carry only larger sizes in night time diaps. I find them at Kuhns,K-Mart,and Eckerd - other than Babies & ToysRus...which can be expensive. I always use coupons.

Try Pampers Baby Dry in the green bag. They're a little harder to find but they certainly work. Our entire family uses them and have only had three cases of leakage. (all of which where due to diaper changing errors made by Dads) :')

I know your pain...I would recommend using Huggies Overnites. My son is two now and we have been using them at night for the past year or so. My son wets more at night whether he drinks or not, so we were very happy when we found these. The overnite diapers are designed to hold more than the regular diapers. Hope this helps.

My son was a huge pee'er too! First of all in my experience Pampers cruisers were the best diaper I found! other than that here are a few suggestions, first make sure he has a totally fresh diaper before he goes to bed, he may be peeing a little while he's having his last bottle. Also, boys are difficult in this matter b/c of their anatomy, make sure that you aim his pee-pee down into the diaper when you put the last one on, often it will lay facing up and then they just pee right out of the diaper. Also get a waterproof mattress pad, got mine at babies r us, but they really have them everywhere. It's really thin and amazingly it holds ridiculous amounts of liquid and its so easy to throw in the wash and dryer. Now this is really only going to save you from having to constantly wash his sheets (I would lay mine on top of the sheet so I wouldn't have to change the whole bedding every morning). But either way they are good to have for when they are older and potty training, sick and throwing up, you name it! Your other option and I did this for a while, was I would change my son into another fresh diaper before I went to bed or in the middle of the night if I was up to pee. I would keep diapers and wipes right next to his bed and change him in the dark without getting him out of bed, often he never even woke up! Oh and just make sure you're putting the diaper just a little more snug, you'll know how tight you can put it without it being uncomfortable. Good luck and this phase will pass too. J.

cut down from 8 to 6 oz. are you feeding the baby, baby food? the baby is also sleeping fo 12 hours that is a long time without a diaper change. make sure his p****** p**** are faced down in the diaper so he is not peeing out towards the top of the diaper. urine is going to be trapped in the front because he is a boy.
