Stroller Without a Car Seat??

I know it's better to use a car seat with a stroller when you have an infant but does anyone use it without? We're planning a trip in December and the thought of having to attach the car seat adapter to our double seems like a lot. Again I know it's probably safer but I was curious if I could just lay him flat in the stroller. Is that bad?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We ended up not using the car seat adapter on our double stroller. It just so happens that the seat that the baby was in reclined all the way and he was secured safely in it. Thank you all for your feedback. It definitely saved on trunk space for our trip.

Never used one of those. Always laid them flat in the stroller. You must
remember this car seat/stroller concept is not that old. For me it was way
to cumbersome.

Nope, make sure the seat reclines and strap the baby in tightly. You don't have to use a carseat with a stroller.

Never used a stroller/car seat combo. We had a stroller that reclined flat and just put my daughter in there.
There is a misconception that a car seat is the safest place for a baby. Especially very young babies should only be in the car seat when necessary (as in when driving in a car). Leaving an infant in a car seat for extended periods of time causes all kinds of issues, from delayed motoric development (container syndrme) to possible oxygen deprivation.
Flat on his back is safest if you're not in the car.
Good luck.

My only 2 questions would be how old is the infant, and does the seat in the double stroller recline totally, because many don't. I'd say with a slightly older infant, it would be ok to strap them in securely. Or for a younger infant, a seat that reclines completely or at least near completely should be ok, strapped in securely, of course, with close supervision.

Last week, I was at the mall, and I saw a baby, maybe a year old?, slide out of a stroller and got his head/neck caught between the seat and the tray. Essentially, he was hanging out of the stroller by his neck. He was yelling in distress, and it took the mother a good 15 or 20 seconds to get him out without letting him fall on the floor, all because he wasn't strapped in. SO, I'd just be very careful if you do use the stroller without the carseat, to make sure he's strapped in properly.

We did both depending on the situation. If my son was asleep, then we left him in the carseat and attached it. If he was awake, we put him in the harness and let him hang out in the stroller. Ours also reclined completely and had the option of putting the "foot rest" up to form more of a cradle. Check the manual for the directions, but it was fine either way.;

Not at all!
In fact, I have double stroller that only *kind of* reclines, and I had my infant in it at 2 weeks old. You have to kind of prop them in there, depending on the age, but it will be fine. Especially if you can lay him flat!
