Stomach Issues

My little guy seems to be having some tummy problems recently. Yesterday he was fussy all day and spitting up a ton. More so than usual. He also did not have a bowel movement. Today he has still been a little fussy, but not as bad and his spit up seems to be more normal. He finally had a bowel movement and it was gigantic and very messy. In his diaper I noticed it was slimey and had a couple of brown lumps in it?? The rest of it looked normal except for that. I was wondering if my vitamins I was taking were upsetting him, they have a lot of iron in them. I was thinking about not taking those for a few days to see if they might be bothering him. I don't believe he is lactose intolerant because he is not showing any other signs other than this. Has anyone experienced anything like this before. Thanks for any ideas you may have.

So What Happened?

Thank you for all of your advice. My son is doing better. The Dr. thinks he just may have had something irritating his intestines, but it seems to have passed. Believe it or not I think it was the oatmeal I was eating. Possibly the fiber was too much for his little body?? Either way he is feeling better now. Thanks!

Hi, J.. We recently discovered that my 9 mo. old daughter has a milk allergy. She started with diarrhea, then mucusy stool. Later the diarrhea went away, but her stool was really dark, which means there's blood. She didn't spit up, though. If it continues, I'd go to the doctor right away. If the stool is dark, usually blood is present, which means that the intestines are raw. It's dark because it's old blood. I had to save some diapers to show the doctor when I went in for visits. We had to have blood tests run for food allergies and parasites. All were negative except a milk allergy. She's now on soy formula and doing well. Good luck!

Take him to the doctor! He could have a twisted bowel/ intestines. I raised six kids and saw a lot of things happen, but this is something I would definitely take him to the doctor for.

Iron supplements are very difficult for the body to assimilate. I have found that the herb yellowdock is much more beneficial in boosting iron levels in our blood, and is never constipating like iron supplements are. Taking nettles with yellowdock assists it to uptake, making it work even better and nettles is very nutritive, too. It sounds to me like your son was constipated the day he didnt have a BM, (which is why you saw the lumps the following day, when he was finally able to pass them.

Hi J., my little guy had many stomach issues too. I found my doctor a wonderful resource to help us identify what was significant and what wasn't. He also had some slimey poop. Did yours look like there was blood in it? Your doctor can easily test his poop to see if there is any blood which would be the result of an intestinal problem. My guy ended up being allergic to milk, however, he showed this problem at 2 weeks old and it didn't go away.

The brown lumps are probably dried blood. My baby had the same thing, with the mucus. My doctor said that I probably ate something that irritated the intestines. Just keep an eye on it.

Hi J.,
My Name is K. I have a 7week old and he also seems to have lots of tummy issues. The issues you are having sounds like what my son is going through. I have stoped drinking milk and eating chocolate incase it is those things causing the upset. To relieve his symptoms I have tried a could of products. Frist is Gripe water. It seems to really work and ease his discomfort. It is a natural product that you can give straight or mix in bottle. You can buy it at a store in Mesa Called Babies, Mother & More They are located on the south west corner of Gilbert and southern.

The next product I purchased at Babies R Us it is called colic tablets by hylands it is also a natural product and it seems to work the fastest at easing his discomfort. It is a tiny tablet that disolves on the babies tongue.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck
K.
