I have a 15 year old daughter and we are low on money and we have nothing to do for spring break. I live in North Augusta, South Carolina and she thinks there is nothing to do around here. do you have any suggestions on what we can do for little money?

What can I do next?

Try going for a picnic to a park. Maybe one with a nature trail to walk. Tie dye a shirt, etc. It can be done with kool-ade. Try a spa day there are recipes for homemade bath salth, etc. on the web. You can paint your nails, etc.

I was going to say Hopeland Gardens too. I grew up in Beech Island and knew nothing about Aiken. It is really a pretty town. You can go to the Savannah River and people watch. Don't forget to go by the Pink Dipper!

If you want to come to Savannah for the day there are tons of things to do for cheap or free! Just walking around downtown is fun! Seeing all the history and people! You can go to Mrs. Wilkes restaurant which is a little expensive but it is southern style food served family style so you get to sit at a table with different people and chat. Of course we have Tybee Island you can go too.

You could go to Columbia for a day. Go to the zoo or if that is to pricey go to the downtown area there and walk around. I am sure there is a cafe or something you can get an inexpensive lunch at and I think they have some park areas you can go to if you had rather take a picnic.

You could go out to Clarks Hill Lake. They have a beachy area where you can just sun bathe or swim and take a picnic. Let her take one of her friends and she would have a blast!

What about going to a state park or campground ,
And you're only about 3 hrs to Savannah that's enough to go down visit some places and come back in one or 2 days.

I'm sure there's something on the Savannah river in the area.

There is also a natural water park not far away in Warenville it's called Richardson's Lake Water park

Depends on what she's into but also you could look up some historical sites to visit. The South has a rich history and you are never that far away.

if you like the outdoors, head over to aiken and hike hitchcock woods and/or walk through hopeland gardens. or just stroll laurens street and stop at an ice cream place, desserves for a cookie, or new moon cafe for a pastry and coffee. downtown aiken's really cute. stoplight deli is also a cute lunch spot for good prices.

A 15 year old is like that. Surely there is a museum to visit (have her invite a friend.). There is good programs on History Channel, Discovery Channel, TLC. They have to be guided/sometimes forced to watch certain programs, but even the regular channels have something on sometimes re: Revolutionary War, Civil War, history - that she may be able to use in school later.

This would be a great time to teach her how to get out of herself and into helping others. I'm sure you have at least a nursing home or hospital or both nearby? Old folks love young folks to visit and the nursing homes especially are usually very open to having some help in the social departments for their residents. Help her bake some cookies to take to them and to the nurses there. Does she sing, play an instrument, or have some other talent that the residents would find entertaining? There are usually plenty of community needs that she could participate in, perhaps even helping out at the humane shelter if she doesn't like kids and prefers animals. Charity work can be very fulfilling and would certainly occupy her time. This would teach her that it's not "all about her" and might even lead her to a career choice!

I am in the same situation. I have decided to do a day in the park with a picnic, board games and balls. Even though it sounds a little too young, because it's with you, she'll love it. The next day we are spending all day in the dollar movie theater. One day we'll visit relatives we haven't had a chance to visit in a while. Another day, spruce up the house in a fun way such as wall coverings and fun painting. Nothing that is boring like painting the kitchen. After that, we'll be so pooped, just watching the tv for the remaining days and ordering movies will be enough

Money or no money, some of the best times are things done on a budget. I know the kids today are into whatever the trend is, but go back to your childhood and think of some things that your parents did that "made memories"! (And if your parents did not do that...you start a trend!) I bet a lot of things your parents did....didn't cost a lot of money.

Since you are in North Augusta...... why not try Clarks Hill Lake! It can be a day trip, hiking, picnicing and if funds permit, rent a wave runner for half a day or all day. If you are into camping, that is another option. Check out their website for parks and recreation. Take photos and then make her a "mini scrapbook" to give to her after the trip.

Take the focus off money, as we are all in that bind these days, make it a time to remember. It is all about quality time together and maybe this will change your daughter's attitude of "nothing to do". Get her involved, let her bring "her creativity" to the table. If she doesn't want to be involved...surprise her! Focus on things she enjoys!!! Maybe enjoying your family time together will be a nice change and can be fun!!!! Since there were 4 kids and a grandmother in our family, funds were usually tight. But our house was the house all the kids hung out at and my Mom an Dad made "everything" fun! Hope this helps! If nothing else you are only a few hours from Atlanta.....

We are in a "budget crunch" as well. I have 5 grandbabies and a great nephew...we are going back to the Old Fashion Easter Egg Hunt and games. No fancy Honey Baked Hams this year.....Hamburgers and Hotdogs! But everything I have planned is the way I celebrated Easter and I know it will be fun because it is nothing like they have experienced before! Ages 2 -5, they will have a blast, as always.

Even at Christmas, they have to "hunt" for their main gift. Our Daddy did that. The big gift had a clue and we had to find it! I started that tradition with the grandkids and it is too funny! Now they want Mommy and Daddy to hide their gifts. I get real creative and make the clue in Poem form, print it on nice cardstock with Christmas designs on them and the Moms keep them for their scrapbooks. This past year, the two 5 year olds had their Mom and Dad hiding things in their house giving them clues so they could "practice" before coming to Grandma B.'s house! Too funny!

Wishing You "the Best" Spring Break Ever!!!!
