Spotting on Birth Control Pill

Hello,

I have always had mid-cycle spotting and longer periods, even when not on the pill. I had a water sonogram and that found i had an internal c-section scar that causes some of this. However, I think had this issue even before my c-sections, just not as bad.

I asked to be put on the pill t try to control at least the length of my periods. I am 37. This is my first month on loestrin fe. I am in the middle of the pack and feel like I have my period! Cramping and more than spotting. What is this!!

Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have a better birth control pill they like. Maybe this has too littler estrogen in it.

Thank you!

What can I do next?

I have been on the pill off and on for years. I have always been told that break through bleeding can be normal the first few months as your body adjusts to the new hormones. My doctor as always asked me to give a new pill three months if possible.( It helps to take the pill at the same time each day.) Most of the time that seems to "cure" it. One time, I felt like I was on my period constantly...I don't think I even made it two months on that pill.

Personally, for me, loestra fe worked great for me the first time I used it. A few years later, I was put back on it. It didn't work for me that time. If I took it at the EXACT same time each night, I was fine. If I missed the pill time by even an hour, I had break through bleeding.

I would put a call in and talk to your doc or a nurse. Just to see what they say. They may want you to continue with that pill. If you are really uncomfortable, let them know. The nice thing about the pill, is there are many, many to choose from. If this one doesn't work for you, another may.

When i started the LoSeasonique (which is a three-month 'cycle' pill) I was surprised and horrified at the cramping/midcycle bleeding. I even asked a friend who was also on it if she'd experienced the same thing-- she said yes.

What I've found, since then, is that the first few packs (let's say a year) I'd experience this at least once per 3 month 'cycle' but that it did eventually stop for the most part--only very, very light spotting and mild cramping. I went on the pill because the other option was a hysterectomy (my cycles were horrible, esp. the cramping-- I would actually miss work they were that profound--labor was a cake walk in comparison.). I'm glad I did start the pill. You might consider switching to a pill which offers less periods and then stick with it for a few packs worth. I am so glad I did. I've stayed on it for the past 3+ years and the benefits have far outweighed the initial experience of side effects.

Reading consumer reviews (which are by nature usually negative for medications-- most people who are happy with their meds are less inclined to post) what you are experiencing is common. I would give it more time, personally... I think it takes our bodies more time to adjust to new medications like this than we think. Good luck.

Normal. I will never use the pill again, though. So bad for my body.

I am on the Nuvaring and have been off and on for about 8 years. I don't even have a period anymore. It took about 2 years for it to go away all together. If you are having problems with the pill, this might help. I haven't had a lot of spotting, but I had the severe pain and moodiness and crying spells so bad that I would sit and cry in the bathroom at work. And, that was all before I got my period! Now, I have very little of any of that, so keep going until you find the right solution for you. I wish I had a better answer for you, I wish you the best.
