Southdale Pediatrics/Alternate Vaccine Schedule

We love SP. Our two favorite docs are Dr. Mitha (our primary) & Dr. Nicholson. Both women are amazing, they truly listen, I feel supported & never feel rushed through appointments. They remember us when we come to the clinic, even we happen to be seeing another doc.

With those two particular docs, I've never had a problem with discussing my concerns with them, and they've never put me in a position where I've felt like I needed to defend my choices as a mother - they are very supportive of my parenting decisions.

We had two bad experiences before finding Dr. Mitha, but she was definitely worth the wait. She absolutely loves our son, he loves her & she is ecstatic to meet our daughter as soon as she arrives! If it tells you anything, my 4 year old son runs to hug her everytime we see her. :)

Dr. Mittha is who we go to now also. She is the best and will split up vaccines. We do this with our children also. She is very good.

Most of the docs at SD Peds are pretty flexible as far as what parents want. My daughter sees Dr. Lisa Oie but I'd recommend any of them! If you aren't sure, simply see different doctors at different visits until you find one that clicks. They work closely with one another so it's not huge if you don't pick a specific one right away.

I am actually switching to Metro Peds. near Southdale in Edina from Southdale Pediatric in Edina. Southdale does not have as many after hours as Metro Peds. does. Southdale peds has hours on Saturday but none on Sundays. Since many of my urgent care visits were due to no Sunday appointments at Southdale Peds.that is a hue plus.

My children will be seeing Dr. Douglas Tate at Merto Peds. I have brought my 1 year for his 1 year check and he was very nice and took 1/2 hour with us. He is not pushy and very open to splitting up shots. They also carry the MMR shot separately.

I did see Dr Susan Brandt at Southdale Peds. She would split up vaccines but they no longer carry the MMR shot separately. She is very easy going and not pushy. Although she did not see my concern for Autism (Asbergers)in my son and felt he did not have it. It is hard for doctors to see that when they only see a child 1 time per year.

My reasons for switching:
1. More weekend hours for sick kid appointments.
2. We wanted a doctor who understood Latino cultures since our youngest is adopted from Guatemala. He has done extensive mission work in Peru. He is so easy to talk to and respects one opinions on care for your child. I am not for the chickenpox vaccine and separating the MMR and he did not push the issue he explained the reason why the chickenpox vaccine is safe and why he recommended it.
3. He came highly recommended by other doctors and every family I knew who has had him spoke highly of him.
4. Side benefit I found that they have MMR vaccine available to be given separately. Southdale Pediatrics quit carrying that option a few years ago.

We have been going to Southdale Peds for years and have been very happy with all of the docs. They all seem very will to do things on your schedule, how you feel comfortable. I dont think any of them would have a problem splitting up immunizations. We typically use Dr. Lutz, but any of them are great.

Love them. We just had twins girls in December that were born at 33 weeks. They spent some time in the hospital and the docs. at SDP's did rotations everyday to see their patients there. So, we met many different docs from SDP, and I couldn't say a bad thing about any of them. Our favorite is Dr. Westlund. She has twins as well and seems to have great advice. She twins are older. It's nice to go to someone that has been in your shoes and knows what it's like to have twins. But like I said, we really liked all the docs there. If for some reason we cannot see Dr. Westlund, I'm always open to see someone else.
